Genting SkyWorlds Hotel — Attraction in Pahang

My family booked a sixer room for 4 nights, just came back from there.

PROS:

1. Staffs' services were great
2. Room view was superb! Can even see KL night views when not covered in mist
3. Full bathroom amenities, refill everyday

CONS:

1. Lots of stains on the beds Black/red and some strangers' hairs both inside and outside of it, pillow cases look like used for a long time, yellowish. We have to ask for extra pillows to replace them.

2. All kinds of stains everywhere on the walls & corners, food and cig rubbish outside the window. Understandable, as the rooms are usually for families with kids or teenagers partying around

3. Full of dust/pillow furs flying around We do not dare to eat in nor drink water from the cups

4. Mosquitos at night Have to open windows so that it is not stuffy, but there are many as we stayed near the garden area. Have to buy and use mosquito repellant every night to avoid it

5. Window blinds shakes and make noises every night whenever the celling fan is on and/or when there is heavy rain and wind. We have to use water bottles to hold them in place. We have to pull down the blinds as the hotel deco lights shine brightly like hell.

6. Some power sockets doesn't work

7. Free instant tea/coffee/creamer/sugar/stirrer looks like it has been placed there for a long time, with dirty kettle pot

8. TV screen quality is lousy, with limited channels, but doesn't bother us much as we were usually out in the day

9. Toliet and bathroom design are really, really lousy There should have been a main door to it so that there is a place for us to change, no hangers inside the bathroom as well (I know this is for families, but we still need to have privacy when bathing/changing)

10. Shower cold/hot adjustment spoilt. Bathing halfway can get scalded suddenly

11. Water pressure for the shower is not strong at all, worse when someone outside uses the tap

12. Bath and face towels were not given enough for six people in this room. We have to call them every night to get extra

13. Both towels were dirty and worn out We have received blacky towels which you have guessed it - for others to use as bath mats, and some towels with holes

14. Going-to-broke toliet glass doors and locks, which might be a hazard for kids

15. Super thin walls and cellings (Lousy soundproof) You could hear kids jumping, shouting, partying with fireworks every night/morning

16. Hotel inaccessible to malls and other places You can open up the theme park gates and install pedestrian crossing in front of the hotel lobby, and at the back of the lobby to access to the gardens but you didn't. My elderly parents had a hard time walking so far, with stairs and a big round just to reach there. There was once the escalator was not working, WORSE SCENARIO HAPPENS. Non-smokers couldn't stand having to smell second-hand smoke whenever passing by to reach the escalator.

17. Please build and provide your own breakfast buffet restaurant within the premises instead of building more rooms at the same floor as lobby and lift. Nobody would want to have their rooms so low that they can get car noises and smoke etc.

If you are looking for a hotel near Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park, look no further. Genting Skyworlds Hotel is the perfect accommodation choice for theme park visitors who wish to stay near this site. Built in 1971, it is the first hotel to open in Genting Highlands and was originally known as Theme Park Hotel. It was later renovated in 2017 and is now known as Genting SkyWorlds Hotel. Its facade may look small, but it has 448 rooms.

Upon arrival at 1.30pm, I was informed the room was not ready. As such, I had headed to the theme park first and returned later at 6pm for my check in. Upon arrival, I had registered my check in using the self-check in kiosk. I had to pay an additional RM13 which comprised of RM10 for the Tourism Tax and RM3 for the Sustainability Fee.

The hotel lobby looks quirky and whimsical, which mirrors Alice who fell into the rabbit role in the classic Lewis Carrol story, Alice In Wonderland. The corridor linking the two wings of the hotel features a floor with a hopscotch pattern on it so that kids can indulge in exuberant play.

I had booked a Quads Room and had requested a mountain view. As such, I was accommodated in Room No. 5475, located at the Valley Wing, which is a three mins walk from the hotel lobby. There are two Queen Size Beds placed on a raised platform, which also serves as a storage space. Clothes are hung on knobs around drawn outlines of the closet. The television set is hung on brackets, with artwork around it to make it seem that it is enclosed in a TV cabinet. This was all designed according to the 'line of sight' theory. Although there is no air-conditioning, a ceiling fan is provided to keep the room cool. Do not worry about feeling warm because the day temperature in Genting Highlands is about 22°C, while it can reach to as low as 15°C during the night.

The room is spacious. I liked that the WC and shower area is partitioned. The shower pressure is good and the warm water is adequate. The room amenities include a mini fridge, kettle, coffee, tea and drinking water. The bathroom amenities include dental kits and a 2-In-1 hair and body wash.

Unlike the popular First World Hotel which does not provide Wi-Fi (Except Y5 Rooms), I am pleased there is Wi-Fi offered for my stay here. There are three USB charging ports and three universal power sockets in the room. The TV offers local free-to-air and some Cable TV channels such as Vision Four, AXN, Discovery, SuperSport, TVB Jade, CCTV 4, BBC, Cinemax and Cartoon Network.

When I woke up in the morning, I was pleasantly surprised to hear birds chirping outside my room. You will enjoy your stay here for its tranquil environment at the Valley Wing.

Genting SkyWorlds Hotel may be a 3-star property, but it is good enough for travellers who wish to spend the entire day visiting the theme park and just want a place to crash...

A Disappointing Experience

I recently had the opportunity to stay at Genting Skyworlds Hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The check-in process alone left a sour taste in my mouth, as I was required to check in twice, with no prior explanation. The first check-in, which they later referred to as a "pre-check-in," took place when I arrived at noon. I handed over my passport, assuming everything was in order. However, I soon discovered that the rooms were not ready, and despite being promised a notification when they were, I never received any such communication.

Later in the evening, my parents arrived at the hotel before I did, only to find out that they had to go through the entire check-in process again. They were even asked to provide the passport under whose name the room was booked. Although my parents provided a picture of my passport, the hotel staff insisted on having the actual passport in hand. As a result, my exhausted parents had to wait for over half an hour until I arrived back at the hotel with my passport. The fact that we had to repeat the check-in process, coupled with the staff's lack of empathy or apology, only added to our frustration.

The disappointment did not end there. Considering the price we paid for our stay, we expected a level of quality that matched other five-star hotels in the city. Unfortunately, the reality fell far short. The room we were given could hardly pass for a three-star rating, with minimal amenities and an overall lack of attention to detail. Instead of real furniture like couches and wardrobes, we found graffiti-covered replacements, giving the room a rundown and shabby appearance. The chairs were replaced with hawker-style metal stools, which were far from comfortable. To make matters worse, the beds were uncomfortable and caused itching, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. Additionally, the sound insulation in the rooms was subpar, as we could hear footsteps and banging from the floor above, as well as doors slamming from various locations, which further disrupted our sleep.

The only redeeming aspect of this hotel is its convenient location right next to the Genting Skyworlds Theme Park. If you are solely interested in visiting the park and prioritize proximity over comfort, then this might be a suitable option. However, if you value a comfortable and hassle-free stay, I strongly advise looking elsewhere. For the same price, you can easily find a five-star hotel in the city that offers superior amenities and a more pleasant overall experience. In conclusion, unless you have a specific reason to stay at Genting Skyworlds Hotel, I recommend staying away and exploring other accommodation options...
