I admit I made a mistake by not checking the menu prices at the entrance. I just relied on the OldTown menu and went in for a meal. When I placed my order, I realized the prices were higher than usual for OldTown. However, since I was already there, I decided not to change restaurants. We ordered four dishes and four drinks for two adults and two kids, and after tax, the total came up to RM195.00, which was on the higher side.
The main issue arose when I found the sambal accompanying my nasi lemak to be insufficient. I asked a Malay staff member if they could add more sambal for me, but he mentioned it would cost extra, so I declined. However, when he placed the order at the counter, he didn't confirm with me, and the kitchen ended up sending out a portion of sambal anyway. It was strange that a Chinese girl brought it to me when we had already finished the rice. She questioned whether we needed it, and I explained the situation, but she said it was already prepared and wouldn't charge us for it, so I decided to use it with my daughter's meal.
Later, the Malay staff member insisted on charging for the sambal, even though the Chinese girl had assured us it wouldn't be. I explained the situation again, and eventually, the charge was waived.
In summary, the ambiance was decent, but the staff could improve their professionalism. The food was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe scale may be small but the architect has captured the old town vibe very well. The whole building looks and feels modern and polished with the right nods to the past. The skylit terrazzo spiralling staircase is functional but also aesthetically pleasing making ascending and descending so much more pleasurable. The top floor verandah addresses our sunny tropical climate. The high ceilings in the front adds just the right touch of drama. The ID is refined, elegant but inclusive.
Food and beverage can be on the high side (at least twice the price of a regular cafe) but the taste and quality is quite faultless for what we ordered (nasi lemak ayam goreng & spaghetti laksa). Nice desserts too - BBCC and TFF. Our servers carried out their tasks professionally, efficiently and were most friendly.
A very nice place to bring friends especially to the small but charming museum on the top floor. Compact but well curated. Nicely done. The creators should be commended for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWow, I was enchanted by its clean modern exterior and didn't know it's actually an old town cafe. Totally shake off its vintage kopitiam vibes and usual decor. It was certainly different from their many chains as we we greeted with staff who showed great service and, importantly, a good knowledge of their offerings. Mind you, the menu are totally different from what you will find in their kopitiam stores. I was delightful by their speciality and uniqueness offerings. We ordered scallops pasta, which was good according to the speed at which it was consumed by my daughter. There are more seats on the 2nd floor and a gallery with a small shop on the 3rd floor, which I think you can visit while waiting for the food to be served. But wait, the Easter egg is the stairs which give a cool retro 70s japanese stone stairs. Needles to say that this is a great place to get some neat photos. Great place to chill out with a couple of good friends over a great cup of...
