Chakori is a contemporary dessert café in the heart of Old Town Ipoh, conveniently located within walking distance of the area’s main attractions. Housed in a colonial-style building with modern decor, it offers a visually appealing setting that blends old and new.
With numerous dessert cafés in the vicinity, competition is fierce. Chakori’s menu includes croffles, waffles, bagels, cakes, and beverages, alongside local Malaysian rice dishes, noodles, pastas, and salads. We visited after a big meal, primarily to experience the ambiance and enjoy a drink.
Service was average—neither particularly welcoming nor outright poor. Orders are placed at the counter, and there is no table service. We ordered a Genmaicha Latte and a Sea Salt Caramel Latte, both of which were priced as expected for a café of this caliber.
A major disappointment, however, was the lack of guest WiFi. While a network named “Chakori” appeared on our devices, staff informed us that WiFi was not available for customers. In 2025, at a café in a popular tourist destination like Old Town Ipoh, this is both surprising and inconvenient. Many visitors rely on WiFi for navigation, communication, or simply to share their experiences online. With plenty of other cafés in the area offering complimentary WiFi, Chakori’s decision to withhold access is a notable downside.
If you’re looking for a quick stop and don’t mind the premium pricing and average service, Chakori may be worth a visit. However, if you prefer a more accommodating café with guest-friendly amenities—including WiFi—you might be better...
Read moreI recently visited ChaKori Cafe and had a pleasant experience. The atmosphere of the café was nice and inviting, with comfortable seating and a modern decor. The ambiance was great and I felt relaxed and comfortable.
The latte I had was excellent. It was well-crafted with a smooth and velvety texture. The espresso was strong and bold, but not overpowering, and perfectly balanced with the steamed milk. The latte had a nice foam and the taste was well balanced.
The creamy butter chicken and tamago rice were also delicious. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the rice was fragrant and perfectly cooked. The food is a great comfort food.
The Tie Guan Yin tea waffles were a unique and pleasant surprise. The waffles were crispy and fluffy, and the tea flavor was subtle yet delicious. It was a nice combination of sweet and savory.
The only downside is that the food comes out a bit slow and their staffs are all extremely overwhelmed. They could use more staff during busy hours or better plan the timing of the food.
Overall, I would rate my experience at Chakori Cafe 4/5. The atmosphere is pleasant, the food is excellent, and the unique tea waffles are a nice touch. The only downside is the slow service, but it doesn't detract too much from the...

Ordered walnut brownie iced latte, genmaicha latte n strawberry pistachio croffle. Drinks were good, especially d latte but perhaps there's no need to pay (extra) for flavoured latte coz d beans itself r good enough. Genmaicha latte unsweetened is powerful 👍🏼 d croffle is a big disappointment. It's drowned in strawberry syrup/jam that we cannot taste anything else. Pistachio topping is generous but d taste is still drowned by d strawberry jam unless we pick d crushed pistachio n eat on its own. Pistachio cream... no pistachio taste so... it's "ornamental". d wait time for d croffle is crazily long - 15+ min n we finished that small serving in
