Mixed thoughts. I spent a day here lounging at the beach club. I actually had the best time until the very end. Will still give 4 stars for the ambience, the environment and the price point - no minimum spend.
The service is on the slow side but didn’t mind as it is a laid back place. Food is reasonably priced for the beach zone.
Now for the bad which is easily -10 stars. There was a dishonest staff by the name of Christino that tried to pull a fast one on me as i was paying with the contactless payment terminal. He had something else underneath the terminal that he tried to put my card under. But i noticed it as he held my card for such a long time “waiting for the receipt” and i immediately snatched the card back in time when i saw him slide the card under. I didn’t know what it was initially(maybe a card skimming device) but eventually found out it is a personal payment terminal from Mercado Pago. I believe he was trying to make a second transaction with an amount he chooses to deduct from my credit card.
🚨TRAVELLERS BEWARE ‼️ of your cards and do not give it to them, hold it on your own and tap the terminal. My mistake was handing the card over because i was too far from him. When confronted, he gaslighted me and said i saw wrongly and insisted it was a wifi device for the payment terminal to connect.
Eventually i spoke with another staff in the hotel restaurant, he may have been the supervisor(unsure), and he said he would speak to the dishonest staff and investigate, but we’ll never know. we’re not there to see any consequences happen and it is Mexico, we are just walking wallets. I have no faith anything will happen to the dishonest staff so calling this out to warn everyone else - it is still a place worth going.
I had a 10/10 experience until this incident at the end. Still, the other staff were good and helpful, especially the supervisor (i believe his name is Uriel (?)) and the security staff at the entrance from the road who was incredibly warm and kind. I commend the security staff sincerely.
My point is… people may be warm and friendly but watch out for your belongings and observe for red flags at all times, look under payment terminals, keep your wallets close and out of sight. I hate to think everybody has a motive but this was a very dirty attempt which ruined the experience.
Christino, if you wish to do this again, just don’t get yourself caught. it is just embarrassing when you try and fail, then proceed to lie and deny. It all looked rather humiliating...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed in one of the ocean front rooms for 7 nights in December 2020. We were nervous about there not being air conditioning in the room, but honestly it was incredible weather (70 degrees at night) and during the day we were at the beach the whole time. They provide towels and chairs, and a server comes down to check on you to ensure you have the drinks and food you want. It was perfect.
There was an amazing seabreeze that reached all the way to our bed. Being able to see the beach from our bed was a dream come true. Our rooms had locks on the door (not sure why a previous review said they didn't). The beach is truly incredible. Staff rake the beach each morning to ensure there isn't any seaweed. The Sian Kaan jungle is a short walking distance and runs alongside the beach. There aren't any hotels in the Sian Kaan portion so it feels like you are on a private island. I went for a run every morning and it was like I had my own private beach.
We stayed for 7 days and probably 3 of the days we had issues with breakfast, which is included in the price of the hotel. It is a made to order breakfast, not a continental buffet like American hotels. The breakfast was delicious. However, it was small portions and on the weekends non-guests came to the restaurant and they took a longer time to get the food out, which wasn't the end of the world because you are beach front staring at the ocean. We didn't complain because it really wasn't a show stopper. When there wasn't enough food to fill us we just let them know and they brought out more food for no extra charge. The servers are so kind and helpful. They remembered our names and made us feel like we were VIPs.
For the price, you seriously cannot beat this hotel. It is in a quieter part of Tulum (a MUST if you are keeping windows open at night for the breeze) but walking distance to the bustle of the...

I came for the latter, and staying in this hotel was a mistake.|Dos Ceibas is very far from the city center, it would take 350 pesos and 20 minutes to get there, assuming the taxi drivers won't scam you (and trust me, they will).|Reception's availability is probable- they are either there, or they are not. WhatsApp will fix that until the evening.|WiFi- there is no reception of it in the rooms. Go outside to the beach. It's a world of opposites I say...|The rooms themselves are of poor quality. There is no air-conditioning, only 2 fans. The nets are torn and mosquitos will have a lot of fun at the room, accompanied by ants and baby cockroaches. Your drinking water supply is one pitcher per room. When you're out- you're out. I had to ask for more, but naturally, no AC means ice in the pitchers will melt in less than an hour, and I ran out at night.|Breakfast isn't great, it should start at 7:30 but in reality, don't expect anything before 8AM, which for me was a problem because I needed to leave by then (25 minutes to the city center).|The staff's level of English is limited, especially in the restaurant.|After I finish dinner (around 9PM) and I head back, they close the doors, and there is no lighting or indicators for the name of the hotel, so it's easy to get lost without taxi.||Still, not to be overly negative, I will say the following that goes well for them- the staff are nice people and will help you with problems (if you speak Spanish). The beach is splendid, and quiet, and the water is very warm and pleasant.||To summarize, if you want a place to do some R&R and got nothing else planned, and you speak Spanish- go ahead! But if not, stay away from Dos Ceibas like the locust plague- or end up...
