Two stars because the views are so amazing, they made for the horrible experience.
Beware the advice telling you to take the alternate free path because there is a “troll” blocking it. Maybe it was just the time of year. We went up on that side thinking we’d circle back toward the castle; however, at the entrance to the castle walls, where it funnels down to a small window with a ladder, we were stopped by an extremely rude man that barely spoke English, saying he’s with the tourism office. He wouldn’t let us pass, wouldn’t let us pay the €8. He just told us that he was security, we have to go back down the 1+hr hike we’d just done, and buy a ticket in the city. It would have been hilarious except that they were serious. No signage, no warning, just a rude man in a window hole yelling at you to go back down. I’m surprised no one else has posted about it, as many people were getting turned back. He let the paying customers pass the other way without a problem.
This was just one of the multiple issues encountered with the city. The country is beautiful, and there were some good parts, but I have no desire...
Read moreOld Town Road in Kotor is more than just a path—it’s a journey through centuries of history and jaw-dropping scenery. We hiked the full trail, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. The stone steps wind up the mountain, offering panoramic views of the bay, the rooftops of Old Town, and the dramatic cliffs surrounding the city.
💡 Tip: If you start your hike from the Ladder of Kotor, you can actually enter the fortress area from above without paying the usual €15 fee. It’s a bit of a hidden route, but totally worth it if you're up for the adventure.
The trail itself is peaceful and less crowded than the main entrance, with plenty of spots to rest and snap photos. Whether you're a history lover, a nature enthusiast, or just looking for a budget-friendly way to explore Kotor, this...
Read moreIt’s worth going up by foot! It’s quit hard if it’s midday and sunny (like it was when we were there). But every 200 m there is someone selling cold water (by the way you can take some from fountain not far from entrance area to the wall). Entrance cost 3-5 euro (don’t remember exactly). You will meet church on 1/3 of the way ⛪️ and after during the whole way up will be parts of ruins of the castle (Citadel). And the view on the top is 100% sure need to be seen. Especially if in the bay is standing Titanic-size ship 🚢 . AND it’s a good fat-burning exercise 🤣 take the cap, sun cream...
