I truly don’t understand why this Hammam doesn’t have a solid 4.7–5 star rating. Many of the negative reviews seem to come from visitors who arrived expecting a Western-style spa: candles, soft music, dim lighting, and a gentle massage in silence. But this is Morocco — and especially Fes, with its ancient medina — and the Hammam is something altogether different.

This country is a beautiful, layered tapestry of sound, smell, and history. Fes was forged from the mingling of Berber and Arab cultures, mystical and wild, alive in every street. To enter a Hammam here is to step into a living tradition, not a modern spa.

Yes, buckets of water may be poured over your head. Yes, you may be scrubbed with vigor, as if you were a pot being polished. And yes, you’ll likely find yourself in a steamy room with other women — half-dressed, laughing, talking, relating. But that’s the point: it’s communal, raw, authentic.

My own experience was extraordinary. After two weeks on spiritual retreat in the medina, I chose to spend my last day here. Loubna, who cared for me, is a master. Her kindness and skill were unmatched — her deep-tissue massage after the bath was among the best of my life. In fifteen minutes she released tensions that usually take an hour or more.

There were no candles, no aromatherapy. Instead there was a timeless space, my body and hair renewed, and the touch of someone who knows her craft deeply. More than that, I was welcomed into an authentic, beautiful, powerful tradition that has been alive in this city...

I attach proof of visit.

Sadly, we had a really bad experience at hammam Mernissi. We booked a 45 minute scrub belik for two people for 9pm costing £60. We arrived at 8.50 and was then put in a waiting room with no explanation. The scrub started at 9.05pm and by 9.15pm we were told that the scrub had finished - less than 10 mins before it started. In disbelief we spoke to the receptionist who wasn’t sure what had happened and why we were out of the hammam so early. Eventually he called the manager who also wanted to find out what had happened. After a long conversation we were eventually offered a free massage but by this time we were quite stressed by the whole situation and left at 9.30pm. Maybe it was the time of night we booked for, but the whole experience was really disappointing - we paid £60 for a scrub that lasted less than 10 minutes. I would probably advise people to avoid this place.

We only went on the back of a number of good trip advisor reviews but we experienced something completely different! The scrub was poor and rushed and finished within 10mins despite being advertised for 45 mins. We really should have been given a refund as a ten minute scrub should never cost £60 no matter where in the world you are. I don’t think we are the only ones this has happened to and after reading other one star reviews I think we should have avoided it. Management should be careful. An over...

The Spa is dated and needs renovation since the massage rooms , the hammam and rest area are old and crumped. At first sight it feels also not very clean and therapists look sloppy. It would be much nicer and clean look if hammam therapists would wear a sarong and everyone a uniform instead of wearing theit own underwear or bathing suit. I personally did not enjoy the hammam to which i give ⭐️⭐️ ( the different steps with black soap mask etc were rushed, for example the mask was left on the body maybe two minutes before being washed away…not allowing even the time to work on the skin ) we were asked to wear a bathing suit or underwear so that you keep it wet even during the relax period and the massage unless you bring your own change. In the resting area the beds are covered with a sort of sponge linen were every guest lay on, i felt uncomfortable because you put your legs head and feet on a spot where everyone else rest instead it should have been covered with fresh towels to ensure maximum protection hygiene and proper sanitation. I give ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to the therapist Saad an absolute master passionate masseur which is a rare find for his dedication and skills in offering five stars massage. A mix of deep tissue and Thai massage done professionally being my only reason to visit this place twice. The receptionist is also very kind and responsive when making reservations...
