25 October 2022 Updated. Have been to movies again 1 time each week, the past 1.5 weeks. Morning sessions, as usual, with less people in the theatre at Riccarton Mall. It seems to be mostly in cinema 1. Saw Mrs Harris goes to Paris, then on Monday The Woman King. Both enjoyable movies. Like most of our purchases now, the price has gone up, so being a senior with my hoyts card the price is now about $16.90, which includes a $6.90 over priced, ice drink, that we can pick up at Mcds for $1 or $2's. Might try that next time. Their awesome staff are always helpful, as I have found it difficult using their kiosk booking in machines. I encourage those who want a break to the movies, to go to morning sessions, when less people are there to pass on covid. Maybe a dozen people at most, sitting not in close contact with me. 😀
Updated August 2022. Good prices for seniors $11.80 and just updated my card with further discount, at Hoyts Riccarton Mall. The new staff member at the counter yesterday morning was brilliant. Love the morning sessions, when not many people are at the theatre. So many movies on at the moment, that suit us seniors. 👍
UPDATED 30 April 2022 After months of not going to the movies, I went to the 10 am session of Downton Abbey - a new era, yesterday. Great update for the series.
Unfortunately the first 30 minutes was disappointing, with tv type adverts and very few trailers of movies. Had I known this would happen, I would not have wasted my time going to the theatre on time.
Awesome catch up movie, only $9 charge for senior with Hoyts card and staff are always so helpful, but advert time waster, was unacceptable Hoyts Riccaton in Christchurch. 🤨
UPDATED TODAY 27 May 2022 Go see Top Gun Maverick at Hoyts Riccarton, in extreme theatre. It was excellent. With my Hoyts card and senior ticket, the cost was only $13 rather than a standard theatre cost of $9. Usually morning sessions range from only me to a one time of 11 people total in theatre for Downton Abbey a month ago, but today being day 2 of release, probably 50 odd people went to Top...
Read moreI took my daughter during the school holidays to see Despicable Me 4.
The theatre was at 15% capacity (Lots of empty seats).
I didn't wonder too long as to why its so empty.
The temperature of Xtreme Screen 7 clocked in at a whopping 1 degree Celsius. It was freezing. I had two jackets on and was still cold. Why aren't you heating the cinemas during cold winter days? Costs?
My daughter asked for snacks which is always a nice addition to a movie going experience, however when I enquired about prices, a small popcorn and drink combo was $18.50.. Are you serious? So we decided to get her a Fresh Up canned drink which was also ridiculously priced at $8.50..
The movie tickets were priced as: Adult Hoyts Rewards price: $18.50 Kids Hoyts Rewards price: $16.20
So we paid $34.20 for tickets alone.
I think there is a direct correlation between low attendance and your high prices.mix in freezing cold theatres and uncomfortable seats which all have rips, stains and tears in the fabric, I cannot fathom how stakeholders can be so set on continuously jacking up prices. There is no value here. Only disappointment.
You will continue to lose out to piracy if you continue down this road.
Movie theatre experience is supposed to be a treat, but I found myself being over charged for a cold, below average nightmare.
I'll stick to the big screen and comfy warm couch at home.
Good luck staying relevant...
Read moreIf I could rate 0 star I definitely would. What an unpleasant experience we had with one of your staff, I believe her name was Kenzie. Me and my partner came in on Thursday night the 11th of July, excited to watch the new Despicable movie. Upon purchasing the movie tickets, we were greeted with the most unwelcome attitude from Kenzie. No smile, no greeting, flat face, even stared us down— for no reason? 20 mins into the movie, Kenzie came in to check in on the theatre. I was on my phone briefly checking my mum’s text messages when all of a sudden this Kenzie girl came rushing towards us rudely telling us to turn our phones off right away. Her delivery was astonishingly poor! She even told us to, “Do it now! Turn your phones off now!” — did we need to be told in this way? Seriously she needs to be booted off of this workplace. This whole interaction absolutely ruined our night and made us felt uncomfortable. We felt harrassed for just checking our phones? Not just us, even the other movie goers had the same experience with her. And she even accused us that we were filming the movie? How disgusting. Never ever going back to this...
