Beautifully constructed station in the heart of the city. Official name: Waitematā Railway Station. It was officially renamed from “Britomart Station” in September 2025. • It’s located in the Auckland CBD (central business district), down by the waterfront, on reclaimed land near Waitematā Harbour. • The station is integrated with a bus interchange and is close to the ferry terminal — making it a major transport hub. ⸻ Structure & Facilities • The station is partly underground; platforms are beneath. The historic Chief Post Office (CPO) building is used as the main entrance. • There are multiple entrances: the main via the CPO, plus an eastern entrance via Takutai Square (Britomart Place). • Access via escalators/stairs/lifts, gates (ticket gates), ticket machines, customer service centre. ⸻ Services & What’s Changing • It currently serves most of Auckland’s suburban train lines (Eastern, Southern, Western lines). • City Rail Link (CRL) project is underway. This will convert Waitematā from a dead-end terminus into a through station with tunnels under Albert Street. That will enable more frequent trains and through services. The CRL is expected to open in 2026. • As part of these works, platform layout is being changed (from 5 to 4 platforms), and the two outer ones will connect to the new tunnels. ⸻ Name & Meaning • The name Waitematā is a gifted name from mana whenua (local Māori authorities). • The name refers to the nearby Waitematā Harbour. It can be interpreted as meaning flat, glassy waters (likened to obsidian “matā”) or to a Māori ancestor who placed a talisman in the harbour.

Clean, modern, and right in the heart of the city. Britomart Station is easy to navigate with helpful staff and good train connections. The area outside is vibrant, with great cafes, shops, and a short walk to the waterfront. Perfect spot to start exploring Auckland! Beautiful ferry building is located just outside of the britomart station. Queens street for shopping and sky tower is on walking distance Nearest Viaduct is a good location for filming and photography

The area is located just outside the Britomart station where the buses and trains set off. There is plenty of food places in the area such as XuXu dumpling bar the the dessert haven Milse. There is also a market on Saturday mornings with more food and other products on offer. Nice place to just grab something from one of the places like Amano Bakery and eat it on one of the seats (or even grassy area) in the square.

I booked the Britomart for the night of my partners birthday. I chose it because I had heard great reviews of it around town. We were arriving by train so being only 3 minutes from the station it was the perfect location. We Ubered to the van Gogh exhibition although its only a 10 minute walk away. The hotel is beautiful. You could be in Italy but you are clearly in NZ. The tasteful and quality furnishings are all natural NZ. The colors are beautiful and modern. The Laneway room we had is neatly compact and all you need to sleep or relax in. The bed is so comfy I slept like a baby. We had a small view of the working wharf and the glistening waters of the Waitamata harbour. We ate a snack of yummy green lipped mussels in their Kingi restaurant in the afternoon and at Cafe Hanoi for dinner. Delicious and just next door. Its not a cheap stay but the thrill of that stay is still lingering....

Very well designed train station located in the heart of the city. The underground station has lift for pram and wheelchair access. Staff are super friendly and caring for little people, very knowledgeable of the train schedule and ticketing etc. Easy stroll to town and suburb connection. It is a great place to hang out in Auckland. The location houses some high end brands of clothings and jewellery like Tiffany's. Some great pubs and fine dining also located in the area. Saturday morning one can enjoy Farmer's market between 8am-12pm. The Farmer's Market brings you fresh vegetables and fruits, and some homemade savouries. One also witnesses commercial liners docked on some weekends at the Ferry Station. One can come here for some great food and pubs.also you can get underground rail bus to go around in the...
