I am only giving this place 1 star because there is no option to give ZERO! We arrived to check in yesterday and were straight away met with rude staff. My husband was in The car with my son waiting while I was checking in. The lady explained that parking was not included and was a first come first serve basis, they had only 10 spots for the 200 rooms that they have in the hotel. Off site parking was $22 per day. I had no choice but to accept. I then asked if someone was able to help me get the suitcase out of the car while my husband parked it in the offsite parking to begin his 15-20 minute walk back to hotel and was met with an arrogant "NO". I then asked about the hotel facilities that they advertise they have. This is offsite too in again another location! So you are meant to walk down the Main Street in your bikini to the pool ten minutes away?? If you don't like Indian food or garlic then the fact that there is an Indian restaurant underneath with lingering smells won't do anything for you either. I advised the lady that I was not happy with this as this is not what was advertised. Both the receptionist and manager were extremely rude and left me in tears! A guest of the hotel for the next two nights in TEARS! I advised I did not want to stay there and asked for my booking to be cancelled and refunded. After being patronised and spoken to in a most disgusting manner the head of reservations (offsite again!) advised them to refund me. I have NEVER experienced such terrible service from anyone anywhere in the world. I am appalled! I was left in a foreign country with my family in tears and nowhere to stay. Being a big city we were able to locate another hotel in a beautiful location, with friendly staff and gorgeous rooms for a CHEAPER RATE too! Do yourself a favour and do...
Read moreMy then boyfriend and I stayed a single night. The room was clean and tidy, we had a balcony to the service avenue beneath. I believe it was the fifth or sixth floor. Beware; the balcony's are coated in a strange tarmac like substance that melts in the Feb heat. I stepped out for a cig and found my feet painted black from it. Took half an hour to scrub off and stained the inner carpet mat to the door. Perhaps it is simply a residue from the commuter car fumes. Regardless it is disgusting and the hotels responsibility. A deliberate set up, maybe? They proceeded to charge my boyfriend for the cleaning fee for a mess that was directly their causing. $300NZD. When he attempted to dispute the charge over the phone, the woman claimed he was racist because he is a white American. It's funny, these people saying that. I did not miss the contempt they had for me, a Māori woman. The side long glances and laughing in Hindi as they pointed at me. Thank you, incompetent receptionist. Auckland has things to offer but there are some communities that will happily remind you, you are an unwelcome stranger in your own land. I do not recommend this horrendous...
Read moreThis hotel was booked for me by a colleague. I was offered a few options I.e. Hilton, Sofitel and Waldorf. As I had previously stayed at other Waldorf Hotels I felt very confident in choosing the Waldorf Celestion in Auckland. Previously we stayed at The Langham in Auckland but I couldn’t remember the name when I was due to travel to NZ again. I was extremely shocked at the standard of this hotel and could not believe that it was part of the Waldorf chain of hotels. The hotel was shabby, the rooms were barely 3 star, there was no Airconditioning in the bedrooms and the noise of from the alley below was intolerable. I received absolutely NO satisfaction from any of the 3 people I spoke to and I felt quite threatened when I spoke to one particular man at the desk. They told me that they would contact the other Waldorf close by to see if I could relocate but they never did. We left a day early as we could not stand the banging of the rubbish bins in the alley any longer. I have learned a valuable lesson and just want to warn anyone who is expecting the high standard that is usually associated with the Waldorf that it doesn’t apply to...
