On November 11th at around 4:00 pm, I had a disappointing experience with a middle-aged female sales associate at the La Prairie counter. Her attitude was extremely arrogant and unfriendly, which became apparent even before speaking with her based on her demeanor. Unfortunately, my interaction with her confirmed my concerns, as she turned out to be one of the most unpleasant sales representatives I’ve encountered.
I have been a loyal La Prairie customer for many years, consistently using their products without interruption. However, this associate made me feel as though I could only afford the Skin Caviar Luxe Cream or White Caviar, as she highlighted these two lines when offering samples—as if I weren’t suitable for the other collections. This felt very dismissive, as if she was judging my suitability for the brand’s wider product range.
Furthermore, when I inquired about a lotion, she initially quoted an incorrect price, stating it would cost over $500 after discounts, only to realize it was actually over $400. This mistake indicated her lack of familiarity with the pricing. She also mentioned that there were only three bottles left, implying that they would certainly sell out today, making me feel as if I was “lucky” to be buying one.
I use the Skin Caviar line because it suits my skin needs well, not because I can’t afford other products. Everyone’s skincare needs and understanding of their own skin are different. However, this associate made me feel very uncomfortable and judged, which has never happened to me in other locations.
Does David Jones view customers with less respect during sales? This experience left me questioning the professionalism of this sales associate, who I feel may not be well-suited for this role. Additionally, as David Jones New Zealand doesn’t seem to have any formal complaint channel, I’m posting this on social media to raise awareness and help others avoid a...

Read moreVery sad to give David Jones such a low review, was delighted when they opened as the ladies on the Christian Dior and other cosmetic counters were excellent, incredibly helpful and always had cosmetics drawers well stocked. Unfortunately they no longer appear to be working there and the guy who used to work at Smith & Caughey's Newmarket cosmetics counter (the reason why I switched to David Jones as his service is so appalling) has now moved to David Jones Newmarket on the Christian Dior stand, he's so unhelpful, one time he suggested I go to Smith & Caughey's Queen Street to buy a product when it was right there at David Jones - I actually walked off and found it, he followed like a dejected puppy. The last straw was looking at his severely depleted stock of Christian Dior foundations, I ordered some foundation from him to collect at the store it's been well over 3 weeks now haven't heard a thing ( he said it would take 2-3 weeks which seems ridiculous). Out of exasperation I have now gone to a completely different business and ordered online, which is delivered within 10 days. I may pop in from time to time to look at cosmetic brands but won't bother if he's serving (or should I say pretending to serve). Don't get me started on the AI customer service phone line - so bad it's laughable - my money and I are...
