I have been parking in downtown carpark for over a year now, mainly on weekends. Weekend parking is typically great - $10 for the day ($2 an hour up to $10). Parking on weekdays is significantly more expensive ($4.50 an hour up to $40 per day). I have never had an issue with finding a carpark. Yes, sometimes you have to go up to the top floor but I have always found a carpark. I think it is crucial to mention two major issues I have had in downtown carpark. Firstly, my car got broken into and while the staff were great, I was very disappointed with AT's overall handling of the situation. The security helped me with filling out the forms required but did not provide any further assistance eg. what I could do moving forward or provide equipment to clean up the glass that was all through my car and the floor of the carpark. This happened during the day on a weekend. My second major issue was on New Years Eve, it took me over two hours to get out of downtown car park. I got to my car at about 12:30am and spent almost an hour and a half not even being able to get out of my carpark because the traffic was at a standstill. Perhaps better solutions need to be sorted for big nights like this. It was an absolute ridiculous amount of time to be trying to get out of the carpark. Props to the carpark for opening the barrier as everyone who had paid for parking would have had to pay again by the time we got down. I was on 1A, the second closest floor to the exit.
One of the worst things about the carpark is its opening hours. From midnight on Sundays and 1am Monday-Thursday, the carpark closes. It is a $40 cash release fee to get your car back. I have had to do this one and have never dealt with such rude security in my life. On that note, I understand that this might be a security issue but there are many staff members along the viaduct and around who use downtown carpark frequently. It is reasonable to have these closing times in place during the quiet period when there arent as many people visiting the viaduct but over summer, it would be great for the carpark to be open for a longer period of time
In short, if you're looking for cheap parking on the weekend or while you're going out for dinner during the week - it is great (unless your car gets broken into) - $10 and it is open 24 hours. Otherwise, only park there if it is your only option or if you arent too worried...
Read more5 stars for the carpark. One of the best parkings in town esp during the weekends. BUT.. 1 star for the lady who ended up helping us. Our parking ticket got stuck in one of the machines on level 2 (I think) due to the machine freezing. Called HELP, the lady who answered, asked us to press HELP "from the other machine" (there were 2 machines right next to each other. So we moved to the next one.
Then she was very rude saying if we don't call her "from the other machine" she won't be able to help us. She was quite rude in the way she spoke. The second machine also froze btw. She actually meant "the other machine" on a different level. After probing she mentioned that I needed to go to another level. I am not a mind reader. It was absolutely unnecessary for her to be rude as we were polite while asking for help.
If she really is unhappy to work at 130 am in the morning I guess she shouldn't be there at all and find another job which doesn't require her to interact with human beings at all. I'm sure after having a great night, nobody wants to come across or speak to a person who is rude and does not know how to instruct.
Again, Downtown Parking is great. Just needs better behaved...
Read moreMAKE SURE TO LOCK YOUR CAR HERE! Yes, it was my mistake to forget to lock my car, but I was only parked here for 15 minutes and in that short space of time my car was completely ransacked! My phone, bluetooth speaker, smartwatch, sunglasses, a powerbank, a pair of Samsung earbuds, and $75 cash were all stolen from inside my car (a total of around $3000 worth of personal belongings). I called the downtown carpark number to try and get security footage of what happened (for the police and insurance) but I was put on hold for over 50 minutes and eventually I gave up. It's also very hard to navigate your way around this place and instructions on how to pay were a bit confusing and some people may have trouble figuring it out. It is in a very convenient and central location though, and it's not very expensive ($2 per hour or $10 per day) so it would be a great option for a day shopping...
