Arriving and Checking In at The Grand Chancellor was relatively easy and quick, the service was friendly enough and the desk provided adequate information regarding the parking, directions and instructions for the room swipe card and key fob for building and carpark entry.
However it all went down hill from there once I entered the room (which I had paid an extra $25/night for to be upgraded!). The furniture was old had visible damage including scuff marks, dents, missing paint/varnish on the dining chairs and table and you could literally see the springs in the couch which looked 50+ years old and was FILTHLY there was half an old biscuit stuck behind the cushion and it was the most uncomfortable and ugliest couch I’ve ever seen. The carpets need a serious steam clean, as do the walls which in the lounge area had holes and dents, as did the closet (- not a small hole like it was a foot wide!!) I didn’t want to be footing the bill for repairs to this room when checking out, so I went down to reception to enquire if they knew of the damages ie the obvious dents (looked like someone had been punching & kicking the walls). They didn’t look concerned and said yes. At this point I was astonished this is meant to be a 4 star hotel - had it not been for location & the pool I would only give it half a star!!
If you want a good nights sleep I recommend staying elsewhere as the bed was too soft - I could feel the springs in my back and the linen was crusty feeling (I am used to 1500 thread count 100% Egyptian sheets though). And I don’t think the cleaning services meet the current Covid19 requirements nor what I would deem enough to make the 4 stars they...
Read moreI booked a room through grabone for a room for 2 and a continental breakfast. Upon arrival our experience was terrible. The lady at the front desk did not acknowledge us in any way. When we finally got our room we were on the 1st floor. Coming out of the elevator there were cleaning products and bags of linens all over the landing. went to our room. on opening the door there were many, many scrapes on the inside door jam as if the door had been jimmied before. a little unsettling. the bathroom was very small and the bath had its plug hole and the water overflow completely missing from the tub and were on the side of the bath. The whole place is very tired and worn. the bathroom walls were had water logged mdf at the bottom. We were so disgusted at the whole experience that we booked into another hotel where the service and facilities were impeccable. we returned to have breakfast the next morning as it had been included. it should not be advertised as as continental breakfast at all. In the breakfast room were vacuum cleaners, icemaker and other bits of electrics that were just stuffed into corners. We went across the harbour for breakfast in the end. The most disappointing thing was that we went to the checkin/out area and discused what was wrong with the staff twice, once the afternoon we left to go to another hotel and in the morning. Instead of taking our concerns seriously, we were just told that someone would look into it. we have heard nothing. Extremely disappointing. I could just have easily stayed at a cheesy motel for much less mooney and had the same experience. If I could give this place a 0...
Read moreAccommodation: 1 Night stay for two Inshort : Poor and clueless reception. Average facilities. Peeling ceiling and broken aircon. Mixed up parking 3 times. Couple of easy improvements to make this hotel better. Beyond me how they scored 5stars or even close.
Overall: We arrived at the hotel and the reception seemed flustered. I wanted to get a parking number so we could Park our car as there were no waiting parks available.
We were given a number, my partner headed down and couldn't find the number we were given so parked in a random one. They told us that the number is definitely down there so we headed down to the forth level of basement to move the car.. Only to find that our 'designated' Park was taken. Parked up again in a random one and headed back up. We told them where we were parked but we're told someone else was going there, they took our keys and told us the concierge would move em.
Later we found concierge had jammed us in between two concrete pillars that didn't allow us to open either of our doors to hop in without bashing them into the pillars. Woo great start! $30 for all that fun.
The ceiling was peeling and thermostat broken. Shower/bath only big enough for one. No spare toilet rolls. And we're only given two towels. At one point house keeping came in.. Realised there mistake and quickly left. Reception were at the very least clueless. Elevator sucks! Buttons wouldn't activate because we weren't given a key chain thing to activate it, reception said they'd make sure it would work. They didn't.
When we were leaving a main entry was blocked due to a leakage in roof. Wouldn't come...
