Disappointing Experience for My 21st Birthday at VYC Blackdoor. I hosted my 21st birthday at the VYC Blackdoor venue, and unfortunately, it was a frustrating experience from start to finish.
Unwelcoming Staff and Lack of Customer Support: Before the event, I visited the venue in person to make sure it would be the right place for my celebration. When I arrived for the viewing, I was greeted by the manager (short black hair). Her attitude was off-putting, almost as if my presence was a problem. I shrugged it off, thinking maybe she was having a bad day.
However, on the day of my birthday (December 14th), the experience was even worse. I arrived at 5 PM to set up, as I had been told to arrive two hours before the event. My friends and I brought decorations but didn’t know where to start, as there was no staff available to assist. When we finally saw the same manager, she seemed uninterested and gave us an unwelcoming attitude. She led us upstairs and made a comment about the bigger event downstairs, saying, "Oh, you start at 7, right? I won’t be here because there’s a bigger event downstairs with 110 guests." Her tone was cold and didn't even crack a smile. That was the last time we saw her.
Hygiene Issues: When we began setting up, we immediately noticed that the tables hadn’t been properly cleaned. They were sticky and greasy. To make matters worse, the bathroom was in awful condition. The trash bin was overflowing, there were used tissues and empty toilet rolls on the floor, and a hand towel (which felt unsanitary for a public toilet) was provided and it smelt horrible. I ended up having to wash my hands again after using the restroom.
Unprofessional Behavior from Staff: Later in the evening, one of the bartenders (who I believe was a manager) said to my Asian friends, who are fluent in English, “Clearly, you don’t understand English.” This comment was completely inappropriate, disrespectful, and unprofessional.
Overall, my experience at VYC Blackdoor was disappointing. From the unwelcoming staff to the lack of hygiene and unprofessional behavior, this venue did not live up to expectations for an important celebration. I wouldn’t recommend this venue for...

"We recently celebrated a 60th birthday in style at the Viaduct Yacht Club (VYC) in Auckland City, and it was an unforgettable night!
Carolyn, Becs, and the entire team at VYC went above and beyond to ensure our event was nothing short of spectacular. From the initial planning stages to the final execution, their professionalism, attention to detail, and warm hospitality shone through.
The venue itself was stunning, with great views of the harbor. The grazing table, drinks, and decor/props were all perfectly curated to fit our celebration theme. And the Retro Photo Booth? Such a winner with our guests - so much fun, right throughout the night!
But what truly made the night special was the exceptional service from Carolyn and her team. They took care of every detail, ensuring we could relax and enjoy the celebration with our guests.
We can't thank you enough, Carolyn, for your outstanding hosting and coordination. You truly made us feel welcome and valued.
If you're looking for a top-notch venue with an exceptional team, look no further than VYC. We can't wait to...
Read moreI had my 21st Birthday at the Viaduct Yacht Club and could not recommend this venue enough.
Not only is the place beautiful, but Rebecca made the organisation so easy and was incredibly accomodating to my requests. She was also organised and had heaps of great suggestions!
Additionally, the venue had all sorts of equipment (microphone, projector, sound system, disco ball etc) that helped to make the event the best it could be. The staff were so friendly and fun and added to the atmosphere of the night.
VYC is a fantastic venue with great management and staff. It's an absolutely amazing place to have any kind of celebration. Thanks so...
