Although I generally don’t find ferris wheels particularly exciting, the architectural impact and the panoramic views offered by the AmberSky Ferris Wheel in Gdansk are notable. While I did not ride it myself, observing the structure from the ground was an experience in itself.
Architectural Impact and Design
The AmberSky Ferris Wheel, located in the Ołowianka district next to the iconic “GDAŃSK” sign, stands 50 meters tall. Designed by the Dutch company Dutch Wheels, it features 36 air-conditioned and heated gondolas, including one VIP gondola with a glass floor. This modern installation opened to the public in June 2016 and was relocated to its current spot in December 2018.
City Views
AmberSky offers a unique vantage point over Gdansk, allowing visitors to admire the historic cityscape. Key sights include the Crane, St. Mary’s Church, and the Town Hall’s soaring tower. On clear days, the view extends to the Hel Peninsula. This panoramic perspective highlights the city’s blend of historical and modern elements, enhancing the architectural experience of Gdansk.
Tourist Experience
For those interested, a ride on AmberSky lasts about 15 minutes, providing ample time to take in the sights. The ferris wheel also offers amenities such as a terrace with sun loungers, an ice cream stand, and a lemonade kiosk, making it a pleasant spot to relax and enjoy...
Read moreThe wheel itself is excellent, the cabins are clean modern and fitted with heating and a/c, lights, and communications. The price is good too although other reviewers have said it's expensive, for me I feel it was cheap. The biggest issue is the location, unfortunately it's now (I'm sure it was not when the site was chosen) in the center of a building site. There's huge construction going on on the side facing old Gdansk, which is unfortunate. The views from the top are over this luckily, but even so, there are more picturesque locations and it's a little less than stunning. It's not ambersky's fault.. Gdansk just isn't as scenic from above as some other locations. You go round a variable number of times it seems, depending on how busy it is, on a cold December day we went 5 times, without stopping once. Since so cheap it's still worth doing, although do be aware you travel round much faster than some other wheels, a complete rotation is in the order of seconds, rather than minutes. One thing that could be improved is to clean the windows more often and use something like rain X to bead the water off better, as the windows were very hard to photograph through as it has rained...
Read moreWe’re so glad we finally decided to ride the AmberSky Ferris Wheel in Gdańsk! After walking past it multiple times during our trip, we had initially planned to climb the cathedral tower for city views, but when that didn’t pan out, we circled back to AmberSky on our last day. And honestly, it was the perfect way to wrap up our visit. The ride was smooth and peaceful, with multiple rotations that gave us plenty of time to soak in the panoramic views. As we slowly rose above the city, we could see Gdańsk’s colorful rooftops, the iconic Crane on the Motława River, gothic church spires, and even the distant Hel Peninsula on the horizon. The cabins were clean, quiet, and climate-controlled, so we didn’t have to worry about the weather at all. Located right across the river from Old Town, it was easy to reach by foot, and there was hardly any wait when we arrived. We recommend going near sunset or after dark if you want to see the city lights, it adds a magical touch. While some might find the ticket price a bit steep, we felt it was worth it for the comfort, convenience, and...
