This is not a museum but rather the owner’s private collection of torture equipment located in one small room in a basement off of the main square. There are no labels, plaques, or information packets for any of the items displayed and the only way to learn more about them is to talk to the owner. The items are not excavated from in and around Kraków but rather collected and purchased from across Poland and Europe. The building does not have any connection to historical executions that happened in the city and the collection itself includes items that weren’t necessarily used in Poland.
The owner provides information randomly as there is no prepared tour info and the conversation veered into uncomfortable territory quite quickly. The owner commented multiple times about mine and my friend’s body types and how we would fit into some of the different torture boxes that he had as we looked around. Additionally we felt uncomfortable at the owner’s continued emphasis on how people would be put into said torture boxes naked and that my friend and I would be put into the witch’s cages because of our short hair.
This collection could be interesting to some but we were very uncomfortable throughout...
Read moreI've been to this museum twice, the first time was in 2017 and the most recent time June 2025, both times it was a very interesting and unique experience.
There's lots of interesting torture equipment on display, the owner is VERY passionate about the items on show and doesn't fail to to entertain with his stories.
The tour he gave will take you through the history of Kraków and how you could end up in a situation where you'd be locked in the tower and subject to the items on display. He's very knowledgeable of general history of Kraków as well.
The tour does not shy away from explicit content and is rather vivid in describing what torture entails.
The museum is essentially a basement packed full with all sorts of painful looking devices and we spent around 40 minutes there talking to the owner and looking at the things on display.
If you're in Krakow, this is certainly a place...
Read moreThis place is a privately owned exhibition and the owner was on-site when we visited. Asking how much we were told 30 PLN for the two of us and didn’t hear any other options; so that would be approx £6 (£3 a person) so not expensive.
It is a single room packaged with different artefacts / items of torture and the owner was happy to answer any questions or give some general information on things. Spoke some English for us to get the idea. There is no written down information or pictures from historical books which would have been good, not that there was much room to include this. More a room of interest than a museum and only takes about 15 minutes to look round.
Easy to fit around other things, not too far from the main square at all and only £3 (15 PLN) per person so worth popping in - just would not expect it to be a...
