This is sincerely one of the COOLEST restaurants I've ever been to! I felt like I was transported back to the early 1990's, in some cinematic twilight zone. It was so cool. In some ways it was like dining inside of a greenhouse! The atmosphere was truly amazing, and this is all the more reason why the food had been better. In all fairness, the prices were very reasonable and you did get quite a lot of food for your zloty - problem is that the food wasn't that spectacular. I'm all for eating healthy, but...why can't healthy food taste good? It can, and it should. I found that this place is perfect for vegetarians and possibly vegans, but it's very difficult for meat-eaters and non-gluten-free patrons to have an enjoyable meal here. The choices look deceptively appetizing, but once you're eating what's on your plate, it's a whole other story. I was disappointed with most of what I chose, and that's saying something since I had three different things on my plate. The potatoes were probably the best, although a bit dry, the stuffed peppers were a real big disappointment, and the rice-chicken breast-plum-corn salad that I had was good, but a bit strange (not to mention cold).
I felt out of place at this restaurant as far as what I could eat, and needless to say after I left, I was very hungry. Again, for the right person it might be a good place to grab a meal during your lunchbreak...but I just wouldn't recommend it to the average person, as I found it to be very drab food. I'll repeat, healthy food can and should taste good - there's no reason for it to be boring and bland. This is just essentially a...
Read moreThis was our first visit to Kraków and we stopped at Chimera for our first meal. There are two areas of the place and we choose to eat in the downstairs restaurant. The basement area that the restaurant is in is beautiful, it is 500 years old and nicely decorated with various pieces of art, as far as the ambiance is concerned it is a 5 star place but unfortunately that doesn't follow through in the food. I had the trout with cheese, the trout was cooked nicely but it had a lot of bones, the cheese on the trout overpowered the flavor of the fish, it was nice Smokey cheese but for my taste it should have been a bit more delicate so as not to overpower the fish. My wife ordered the vegetarian plate, it was served on two plates, the first had 3 types of salad and wasn't very tasty, the second plate had more choices but it was very underwhelming, boring flavors and bland. The server was very nice and did a good job but the food was not great. I would choose to try another restaurant before visiting Chemera again. Having said that, the ambiance was so nice here that perhaps we just ordered the wrong food, it might be a nice romantic place to enjoy a meal if you choose your...
Read morePerhaps the food is acceptable, but the service and the maitre de la maison certainly aren't. Customer service is definitely an alien idea for the staff. I understand that everyone can have a bad day, but being able to put that behind when you work with people is a mark of professionalism. The grey haired guy (presumabely the maitre de la maison) instead of reacting to rude behaviour of the staff joined in to rant at customers (i.e. me and my companions). Treating customers like a herd good only to leave the money seems to be the mark of this place. I couldn't recommend it less. This applies to the buffet part, don't know about the restaurant underground, still the visit at Chimera was a massive...
