During the Thirteen Years' War, the castle withstood sieges many times and constantly needed money to rebuild. In the fifteenth century, the townspeople, merchants, and clergy formed the Prussian Union to resist the power of the Order. They did not want to pay taxes to the Teutons. A siege of the castle began and due to lack of supplies the castle capitulated. It was looted and destroyed and the crusaders were driven out.

There is a legend that tells a little differently about these events:

The castle was designed to hold a siege, so there were plenty of supplies. But castles are often taken because of treachery, and so it was this time. The merchants conspired the castle's cook to get the garrison drunk and signal the attack. The cook, after completing the task, when the castle garrison had gone to sleep, climbed the tower and swung a huge ladle. The townspeople rushed to the attack and captured the castle, while the cook continued to sit on the tower and look around the battlefield. But in vain, because the Teutons were so fed up with the townspeople that they immediately decided to blow up the castle and, without thinking about the cook, laid explosives. The explosion sounded and the explosive wave threw the cook to the Helm Gate, from where the townspeople took him off and rewarded him.

Thus ended the history of the castle and the Teutons in Torun.

Podczas wojny trzynastoletniej zamek wielokrotnie wytrzymywał oblężenia i nieustannie potrzebował pieniędzy na odbudowę. W XV wieku mieszczanie, kupcy i duchowni utworzyli Związek Pruski, aby przeciwstawić się władzy Zakonu. Nie chcieli płacić podatków Krzyżakom. Rozpoczęło się oblężenie zamku, który z powodu braku zaopatrzenia skapitulował. Został splądrowany i zniszczony, a krzyżowcy zostali wypędzeni.

Istnieje legenda, która nieco inaczej opowiada o tych wydarzeniach:

Zamek został zaprojektowany tak, aby wytrzymać oblężenie, więc było w nim mnóstwo zapasów. Ale zamki są często zdobywane z powodu zdrady i tak było tym razem. Kupcy zmówili się z zamkowym kucharzem, by upić garnizon i zasygnalizować atak. Kucharz, po wykonaniu zadania, gdy garnizon zamku zasnął, wspiął się na wieżę i wymachiwał ogromną chochlą. Mieszczanie rzucili się do ataku i zdobyli zamek, podczas gdy kucharz nadal siedział na wieży i rozglądał się po polu bitwy. Ale na próżno, ponieważ Krzyżacy mieli tak dość mieszczan, że natychmiast postanowili wysadzić zamek w powietrze i, nie myśląc o kucharzu, podłożyli ładunki wybuchowe. Rozległa się eksplozja, a wybuchowa fala wyrzuciła kucharza do Bramy Hełmowej, skąd mieszczanie zabrali go i nagrodzili.

Tak zakończyła się historia zamku i Krzyżaków w Toruniu.

У період Тринадцятирічної війни замок багато разів витримував облоги і постійно вимагав грошей на відновлення. У п'ятнадцятому столітті городяни, купці та духівництво створили Прусський союз, щоб протистояти владі Ордену. Вони не хотіли платити податки податі тевтонцям. Починається облога замку і через нестачу припасів замок капітулює. Його розграбували і зруйнували, а хрестоносців вигнали.

Щоправда є легенда, яка розповідає трохи по-іншому про ці події:

Замок був призначений для того, щоб тримати облогу, тому припасів там було вдосталь. Але часто замки захоплюють через зраду, так було і цього разу. Купці підмовили кухаря замку напоїти гарнізон і дати сигнал про напад. Кухар, після виконання завдання, коли гарнізон замку повалився спати, забрався на вежу і замахав величезним ополоником. Городяни кинулися в атаку, захопили замок, а кухар продовжував сидіти на вежі й оглядати місце битви. Але даремно, адже тевтонці так набридли городянам, що вони негайно ж вирішили підірвати замок і, не подумавши про кухаря, заклали вибухівку. Прогримів вибух і вибуховою хвилею кухаря відкинуло на Гельмнську браму, звідки городяни його зняли і нагородили.

Так закінчилася історія замку і тевтонців у Торуні.

This is the building that houses the cash register for entering the castle ruins. There's a man working at the window to this place, incredibly easy to miss as it's not something you see every day. The ruins themselves are fun to see, but there are so many places where you can just jump the fence or bushes and get inside. The current way of organisation is a bit dumb in my opinion. Anyway, cash register hard to spot at first, look for a big sign...

Firstly, it, like many places in Poland has very agreeable entry fees, costing only approximately £6 per person. Its a great place to lose over an hour to, you can freely walk about the ruins, both at ground level, upstairs and also explore underground. I wont spoil it but the underground had certain parts that had my wife and I laughing a lot! I like the use of the lighting underground makes it interesting and give it a...
