Quite a scenic beach, essentially a little cove in between two cliff buttresses. Its small size makes it unfortunately quite crowded during high season.
The big plus is that from here you can rent kayaks or SUPs or take a boat tour to visit the nearby Benagil cave, coves and other caves along the coast. VERY RECOMMENDED!!! Take a kayak or SUP if you can, so that you can actually get ashore inside the Benagil cave or on the coves. Larger boats will enter the Benagil cave only for a few minutes and won’t let you off board.
The beach is surrounded by high, ochre cliffs. They are full of recesses, which make for a few opportunities for some shade without setting up an umbrella. However there are signs of danger of falling rocks anyway, which nobody respects, although for your safety you should keep well away from that shade from the cliff. Read moreBeautiful but overcrowded. Tourists everywhere and zero respect for the people who want to relax at the beach. It’s impossible. If you go early, from 8 to 9 am, there’s no sun at the beach. A good time to go is from 9 to 10:30 am; after that, it gets completely packed. By 11:00, there’s absolutely no space. I’ve stayed for one week and had to drive to other beaches because this one lacked quiet and peace.
If you want to swim, you have to be careful with the crazy amounts of kayaks, boats and stand up paddles, which might be dangerous and end up generating a lot of water traffic. I do not recommend it.
