Great Experience with Miguel, despite weather. We completed our two hour Benagil Kayak adventure with Miguel (12noon April 2025) and enjoyed the challenge and experience. My wife and I were given the tandem inflatable and shared the journey with one other couple (we were told late May/June would be much busier) so we appreciated the more intimate close quarter caves without a bunch of people bumping into one another. Miguel instructed us on the beach with basic techniques and was patient with questions. When we started, the sun was peaking out from rain clouds with the (30km/h) wind blowing us Northeastward toward shore while the current was going westward. Miguel was well seasoned (20yrs) and guided us whilst kneeling on his paddleboard. He directed us from Benagil Beach in 2m waves toward and in to the caves in the cliffs and gave background geological insight in the formation/layers of these picturesque wonders. The rain and wind started and we followed Miguel's positive humor and good spirits through 1-2m waves . ** My Recommendations ** - be mindful of the location if you will hike the 7 valley hanging trail after your Benagil Kayak journey, the Bolt drivers may reject your late day pickups if you end up at the isolated lighthouse so plan your exit strategy with time of day in mind (esp. If you're staying in Lagos), maybe consider taking Bolt to (start at) the lighthouse west of Benagil Beach and then doing Benagil Kayak possibly, that way you leave right after your kayak journey from a busier Benagil beach (but then you must have dry backup clothes for the Bolt back) - wet suits available at the hut, if you need it, my wife and I skipped and didn't regret it. -take your shoes off , leave at beach or hut ( kayak will take on water from waves/stroke splash), we left ours under the stairs beside beach café -coarse sand is at the beach and so you can hose/spray it off at the Benagil Kayak hut when you return life jacket/paddles -bring a change of shorts and shirt (if you don't have a dry top it will dampen your dry shorts and no Bolt drivers will be happy with you ruining their interior) - hat / sunglasses will keep wave spray out of your eyes -arrive 15 -30 min early because you will get your life jackets/paddles/small dry bag at the yellow truck / hut halfway down the road (on the right) to the beach from the parking lot -*unrelated to Benagil Kayak* washrooms at beach were not stocked with toilet paper when we were there -*unrelated to Benagil Kayak* the beach restaurant/ café are not cheap so you may wish to bring snacks for little ones. The food/drinks themselves were fine otherwise. Again a big thank you to Miguel for looking after us and making the most of the conditions.

Definitely an experience worth taking, and Banagil Kayaks made it worth our while. I'm not saying you should procrastinate the way we did by waiting till the last minute to book the kayak tour the way we did, BUT Eduardo (the gentleman who answered our call, and operates the rentals) was very accommodating and helped us with detailed instructions on where to go once we got to Benagil Beach. When we got there, they set us up with life jackets and paddles then had us walk over to the beach where our tour would start. Btw, the tour operators had locked cabinets where you could store things like backpacks or anything else you didn't want to get wet. *Bonus: This kayak operator specializes in small groups of 12 (with 2 people per kayak for a total of 6 kayaks) in order to keep good control of the tour. (No one wants delays because there are too many people to round up, or wait for, when entering and exiting the caves!) After Eduardo gave us a brief rundown of do's and don'ts, we were in the water and on our way! Note: My wife and I are leisure kayakers and while we have experience in places like the Bay of Fundy, we needed to acclimate a little to the heavy amount of tour traffic at first. It seemed like "orginized chaos" at first because of the amount of tour operators working off the same beach. HOWEVER, once we paddled away from the beach and got a hang of the mild wakes, we realized that the guides really do have control of what going on. We even noticed the mutual respect the guides from competing operators have for one another when dealing with ingress/egress of the caves (there a limit of how many kayakers can be in a cave at one time). I took loads of picture and our guide was very knowledgeable, and helpful, throughout the tour. We highly recommend this crew of professionals and will not hesitate to use them again when we take our friends to the caves next year!

Wow. My husband had done his research & found that it is better to do the first or last tour of the day. We chose the last (6pm to 8pm). When we arrived we were told that nobody else had booked. This meant we had a tour for just the 4 of us. There was somewhere to lock away anything that we didn't want to take with us (eg the car keys!) & we were given a dry bag to use on the kayak. It meant I could take my mobile & not worry about it getting wet. Our guide, Miguel, was patient, knowledgeable & passionate about his role. We set off towards some of the lesser known caves & Miguel told us what to look (or listen) out for in every one. Then we paddled to Benagil cave. Within minutes we had the cave to ourselves. Miguel said it is unheard of & was happy to allow us extra time to explore & take photos. It really was quite special. When we had had enough, it was a short paddle back to the beach. We were able to rinse the sand off with warm water & retrieve our belongings. Huge thanks to Miguel for a memorable evening. Youngest son said it was the highlight of the holiday. NB - you don't need to be able to kayak but you do need to be able to swim. Life vests are provided but you need to be confident on & around the water.

This company is a fraud. They sell you a tour within 6-7 caves visit, at the end we made only 2 caves until the guide send us back to the beach. They make you wait 30 minutes in the caves to save themselves some free time. Even more they pretend we’ve been late but we had only 15 minutes late. And the best, since you reserve for a couple of hours, the guide saying to go slowly even tho you have a group of grown ups all experienced in kayak, they slow down the visits. The icing on the cake was the tour guides insulting us in Portuguese thinking we were all frenchies with no understanding of their langages. Too bad I’m born in Paredes de Courra, Portugal. Don’t go there if you want to use your money on something casual.

Answer to the owner : you know very well who I am since we argue for 15 min on the beach after the tour. Pretending you don’t know who I am is not really relatable and professional as was your behavior on the 4th august when we came and did reserve a tour for 19 persons. All you wanted was easy money. Don’t force me to add pictures of your boats and paddle board to prove you are the good company and make you looks even more stoopid. I even took picture of the little terrace were you gave us jackets and waterproof bags for the tour. Kiss kiss bye bye, from o Senhor Jorge, a réserva de 8 horas (nao 7 e...
