Dumar d’benagil — Restaurant in Lagoa

We started out with a really tasty, but very small starter: "sweet chilli chicken bites".

Our main problem came with the sides to our main dishes. Especially that the restaurant chose to save money on the veggies, making the portions very small.

I ordered the "cod chef's choice" and hoped that the fish was made in some special way, only to find out that it was simply breaded. Everything on the plate was plain and I had to use extra mayonnaise and salt to get some flavor into that.

The other dish we ordered was the "black pork feathers". This dish was good but also unsatisfying because there were no greens in it. Of course I could have ordered some extra but I expect a big enough portion, when I am willing to buy a meal for around 20€ each. Meat was also overcooked in my opinion because you had to chew a lot to get it down.

The cheesecake was also not to our liking because the strong citrus flavor was not very coherent with the caramel.

Service was okay. Overall our expectations, that came with the very positive reviews, sadly...

Our experience at Du mar was just amazing, we ordered the Cataplana De Tamboril E Marisco and it made our day ! We had a fresh salad and the grill Octopus with sweet potato. Everything we had was just divine. The atmosphere was great. The staff was super friendly. That day we were there they had a family friend that was sitting next to our table. He was so nice. He lives in Lisbon And he was telling us what to order what drinks to order , He made the experience even better. I just can’t say more of how we felt with the whole experience that we actually came back a second time and the waitress that took care of us. She literally remember our whole order because we wanted to order exactly the same. That blew my mind. She actually remembered everything. To top it off our friend walked in so that we could say goodbye because we were just visiting from the US. I was telling my husband, I can still taste the Catapana And will miss it so until next...

We booked a table for 7+2 children, one in a pram and one child seat. On arrival we were told that the only tables available were separated, so we have two sets of 4 next to each other, a bit frustrating as it was our last meal together of the holiday, but got on with it. It was busy, but with a bit of prior planning I think this could have been handled better.

The main courses were very nice, thoroughly enjoyed all our dinners, and I had quite frankly the biggest shrimp I’ve ever seen in my life!

The deserts were a hit and a miss, the cheesecake was fantastic, but unfortunately the chocolate moose was more of a chocolate cake batter, with similar consistency. We asked if it needed to set but apparently that’s how it comes out. However, this wasn’t a problem and the staff were very professional, took it away and didn’t charge us for it.
