Seven Hanging Valleys Trail is a not-to-miss hike in the Algarve. This 6-kilometer route is known for its breathtaking scenery. It offers spectacular views of the rugged coast, limestone cliffs, picturesque beaches, and natural caves. Details : 🕜 Time – from 2 hours (but we took lots of breaks for pictures and to chill at the beaches on the way, so it took us 4 hours) ⛰️Total ascent – 210m ⛰️ Total descent – 228m 🚶♀️Difficulty – moderate Starting point – Praia do Vale de Centianes Finishing point – Praia da Marinha Walking route – Praia do Vale de Centianes – Alfanzina Lighthouse (at 1 km) - Praia do Carvalho (at 2,5 km) - Benagil (at 4 km) - Praia da Marinha ( at 6 km) You can also start Marinha and end at Centianes but I choose to end at Marinha because it is one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Europe and hence it felt like a final reward after the hike. The hike is marked but if you still lose your way, just keep walking along the cliff and enjoy the beauty all along. Bonus Tip : Please carry 2 bottles of water and a snack with you because there are no shops on the entire trail except at Benagil. And don't underestimate the sun. If you have been reading my captions, you already know that I am all in for secluded or less crowded places away from the hustle of influencers and tourists. As a consequence, I always research a lot on places I am visiting and also always try the off beat path. And I have always been fairly surprised. That is how I stumbled upon this hidden and secluded beach. To reach this beach, you would have to go to hike on the seven hanging valley trail in Algarve in Portugal but please note that there is no board which tells you to go down the tunnel. The nearest town is Carvoeiro. The trail starts from the beach of Praia do vale centeanes and ends on the Marinha Beach (the most beautiful beach on the trial). On the way you pass multiple smaller beaches (accessible only with kayaks), grottos, caves and secret beaches like these. This beach is called the Praia do carvalho. How do you know you have reached here because it is not evident : Stay alert after farol de alfanzina (lighthouse) and Floating rock. Amazing beach with beautiful abrasion cliffs. The access to the beach is by means of two tunnels with stairs that are carved into the stones. The beach is lovely with the big rock in front of it. After around 18:00 large parts of the beach get in the shadow. There is also a cave in the rocks that has some structure build in it. The beach in general is mostly dangerous in terms of the risks of rocks falling from the abrasion cliffs. This covers most of the beach except a small spot in the centre. There are bins upstairs on the cliff, the way to the beach are mostly paved and there is a nice parking space closeby.

Beautiful beach rivaling any I’ve been to so far. A fruit bar and a food truck are at the top with ample free parking. Lots of steps to walk down but not too taxing. Small beach is reached thru a tunnel. It can fill up in the afternoon but pretty empty in the morning we were there. Blocked from the wind too! Lots of tourist boats start coming around 10A. Some shade along the cliffs. Gorgeous water, particularly at high tide. No amenities at the beach other than a random guy walking around selling drinks, so bring snacks. Highly recommend!

Definitely my favorite beach in the Algarve, I think it’s better than Praia da Marinha because there is none of that weird brown seaweed and the water seems much more clear and beautiful here. It’s not overcrowded and there is a huge protected area between two cliffs where you can swim all the way out into the ocean and still feel quite safe Also the mysterious Cave staircase entrance and the fact that you can do Cliff Jumping at this beach (if you’re brave enough) is what makes it so special.

This was a great beach. Arrived around 12:30a on a weekday and it wasn't crazy. Google takes you to the asphalt parking lot, but there is a dirt parking lot that is about half the walk (not sure how you get there). There are zero facilities on this beach so be warned. This is a very nice sand beach, not a lot of shells either. There are lots of little and big caves. Lots of folks were cliff jumping too, although the path was clearly blocked. Lots of boats come in too, to see the caves.
