Pretty cool bridge... Some great history on it from Wikipedia. In March 1952, a preliminary project for a roadway bridge was adjudicated to Professor Edgar António Mesquita Cardoso, by the JAE. It was approved in 1955.[1][2] The construction of the bridge proceeded in May 1957.[2] By decree 42/234, dated 22 April 1959, the Ministério das Obras Públicas (Public Works Ministry) promoted, through their respective City Councils, the construction of modest dwellings for the accommodation of families that needed to be demolished, as a result of the construction of access to the bridge.[2] By 22 June 1963, the bridge was concluded and inaugurated.[2] At the time of its completion,[3] the bridge's main span of 270 metres (890 ft) was the largest of any concrete-arch bridge in the world.[2] In the 1990s, the elevators on the bridge were deactivated.[2] A process to classify the bridge began on 16 February 2011.[2] An announcement was issued on 18 September 2012 (13409/2012) on the project to classify the bridge as a Monumento Nacional (National Monument), establishing its respective Special protection Zone.[2] On 24 June 2016, a tourist experience that allowed pedestrians to walk across the archway, an idea of Pedro Pardinhas, who invested 50,000 euros and safety equipment and transformation of a small annex as the reception hall for "Porto Bridge Climb".[2]

🌉 Impressive Views The Arrábida Bridge offers stunning panoramic views of the Douro River, especially striking as the sun begins to set—an unforgettable scene of glowing skies and reflections on the water. 🚶‍♂️ Scenic Walk Walking along the riverside beneath the bridge, with the metro occasionally passing nearby, creates a unique blend of nature and city life. The sound of the train and the gentle breeze from the river add a special rhythm to the moment. 🌅 Sunset Magic This spot transforms completely at dusk. The colors, the silhouettes of the bridge’s elegant arches, and the peaceful atmosphere make it perfect for a relaxing end to the day or a quiet moment of reflection.

Unique and pioneer bridge created by the genius of #EdgarCardoso, the imortal visionaire #Portuguese #engineer of the #XXcentury.

(It's surroundings should be preserved, but instead #PortoMunicipality is allowing the most stupid urban mistakes to be built around it, which have been irreversibly descharacterizing this unique site along the river #Douro waterfront - another crime with which #speculativeBuilding is sadly destroying the once remarkable heritage of #Porto... shame on all who make it happen - and now they are even 'planning' another tragedy, with a new #metroBridge which will rip off the remaining antique area around #RuaDoGólgota in #CampoAlegre, which should be preserved by all means... ignorance & greed together are the worst enemies of a decent and civilized society, which without a past won't have a...
