The fact that this was free to visit, without any guards or "do not enter" signs made it that much closer to connecting with the place. As long as everyone is respectful of the amazing ancient ruins we have the fortune of seeing, we can keep sites like these free and open. You can walk around the Odeon and pretend you're addressing an imaginary audience, like how the ancient Greeks and Romans used to. It's in quite good shape, built in the 2nd and 3rd centuries by Romans and part of the Ancient Town of Kos. Most of it has been restored, but the first nine steps are the original marble ones. There are a few public parking lots nearby if you plan to go by car, but I haven't seen any public toilets.

It's surreal, to be stood among the ancient relics of a previous civilization, circa 2,000 years old, but that is what the Odeum and the adjacent Roman excavations offer. Indeed, Kos town and island offer a rich variety of historic buildings in various states of ruin/preservation. Well worth spending an hour or more discovering them, and pondering in awe their construction that has stood the test of time. The Odeum is perhaps smaller than I'd expected but wonderful anyway, with an interesting exhibition in the building's basement. Beware however, some of the buildings close early, around 15:00 hrs.

Came across this place whilst driving down the road. It looks great for the age. You can walk and climb up it. There isn't too much to see but there is a great look about it with some of it being made of marble. There are some tunnels underneath it which weren't open when I went. Managed to take plenty of photos from the top of it. Iy gives you the perfect opportunity to visit and walk around a genuine Roman amphitheatre and take it all in. There is a car park nearby with plenty of free parking. Not the most interesting site in Kos but still worth dropping by.

Amazing set of ruins in the middle of Kos town (as are the ones of the settlement directly across the road which I would give 5 stars to). The odeon has been slightly and sympathetically refurbished, I don't know how bad the condition was beforehand but feel the refurb slightly spoils the experience. The tunnels underneath are as inspiring (put the torch on your mobile phone on and you'll see the painted walls which are hard to see otherwise). Would recommend seeing these either earlier or later in the day due to high temperatures.

The Roman Odeon was built between the first and second century AD to host music competitions; it was also the seat of the Gerousia, the public authority of Kos, having no political power, as stated by inscription testimonies, but ensuring the attribution of honours to distinguished citizens of the island. It could hold over 750 people. Now you can see the outside part free of charge, unfortunately when I've been there last week, I could not enter the interior exhibition due to the covid and lack of employees on site.
