Moscow Museum of Modern Art — Attraction in Presnensky District

The Moscow Museum of Modern Art is a museum of modern and contemporary art located in Moscow, Russia. It was opened to public in December 1999. The project of the Museum was initiated and executed by Zurab Tsereteli, president of the Russian Academy of Arts. In 2018, The Vadim Sidur Museum and Museum-Studio of Dmitry Nalbandyan merged into the Moscow Museum of Modern Arts. The core of the Museum's assemblage was constituted from the private collection of Zurab Tsereteli, its founder and director. Artworks of many renowned international artists are exhibited in the Museum's permanent collection halls like Marcus Jansen. The highlights include objects and sculpture by Armand, the “Sun Disk” by the famous Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, the installation “CIS Ant Farm” by the Japanese conceptualist Yukinori Yanagi, as well as other works of contemporary art based on contemporary technologies. The masters of European and American art, such as Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró and Rufino Tamayo, are represented by their lithographs. A special emphasis has been given to the collection of Russian avant-garde art. The museum spotlights works of world-famous artists of the turn of the 20th century: Kazimir Malevich, Alexandra Exter, Natalia Goncharova, Robert Falk, Ivan Pouni, Vladimir Baranov-Rossine and David Burlyuk (30 pieces). Visitors can also become acquainted with two compositions by Kandinsky’s friend Vladimir Izdebski, who is known for his “Salons de Paris” series after the revolution of 1917, and also a unique collection by the famous Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani. The Museum displays the interesting exposition dedicated to the art of non-conformists of the 1950–70s, whose creative activity was in the opposition to the Soviet ideology. Among them are V. Nemukhin, E. Steinberg, V. Komar, A. Melamid, A. Ney, O. Rabin, A. Zverev, D. Krasnopevtsev, and more. Contemporaries are represented by Boris Orlov, Dmitry Prigov, Francisco Infante, Oleg Kulik, A. Brodski, Aidan Salakhov, Lena Hades, Valery Koshlyakov, Igor Novikov and Serguei Shutov. They are mostly focused on forms of the so-called “actual” art. The Moscow Museum of Modern Art contains works of art from the first decades of the 20th century; the exposition is based on contrasts and correlations of artistic trends and events in Russia and abroad, and is also aimed at showing the integrity of the development of world culture, while specifying the role of the Russian art in it. To celebrate its 20th birthday, the institution invited 20 celebrities from all walks of life to curate its anniversary exhibition. Абсолютно комфортное для знакомства с современным искусством пространство. Для тех, кто идёт в ММОМА впервые, для полного погружения в атмосферу музея и для наиболее тесного соприкосновения с творчеством современных художников и скульптуров, рекомендую, конечно, брать экскурсию. Мы были там на детской экскурсии для ребят 4-6 лет. Остались самые положительные ощущения. Во-первых, порадовала цена - детский билет стоит всего 200 руб. И это очень не высокая цена, учитывая, какой удивительный и ценный опыт приобретает ребёнок за эти деньги. Группа на экскурсию набирается не большая (в нашей группе было 6 детей), заранее и билет нужно приобретать через интернет. И нужно иметь ввиду, что в день экскурсии или даже за несколько дней до неё вряд ли уже получится его купить. Сопровождающим взрослым билет (350 руб. - это не льготный) правда заранее приобрести через интернет не получится, его предлагается купить в кассе при входе в музей. Сделать это можно и в день проведения экскурсии - это не займёт много времени, очередь в первую субботу февраля отсутствовала вовсе. Гид - детскоориентированный, встречала в холле музея при входе и отмечала всех в списке купивших билеты. Детям наклеили на одежду бумажные бейджики с именами. Однако, всё же не рекомендую детей отправлять на экскурсию без сопровождения ответственного взрослого - потеряться в музее есть где, и не всегда экскурсовод отслеживал присутствие своих маленьких экскурсантов. Но это лишь повод, на мой взгляд, не только разделить с ребёнком эмоции от знакомства с миром искусства, но и самому получить удовольствие от экскурсии. Экскурсия длится 40 минут, потом творческий мастер-класс в детской мастерской музея. Всё вместе займёт около 1,5 часов. В общем всем рекомендую. Отдельно отмечу, что в музее работает, конечно, и гардероб (там можно оставить также и детскую обувь, если ребёнок переодевается), и кафе, и книжный магазин, и присутствует, само собой, туалет. Но при этом: кафе - не большое (хоть и есть посадочные места) и ассортимент в меню скудный (круасаны, кофе, чай и печенье по 80 руб за штуку); в туалете одна кабинка, но при этом чисто, стоит современное оборудование и достаточно места. Однако для людей с ограниченными возможностями, увы, удовольствие побывать в музее на Петровке не доступно - не заметила, чтобы лестницы были оборудованы пандусами не только в туалете, а вообще во всём музее. А для тех, кто хочет подкрепиться основательно - во дворе музея есть Кафе «Март». Ну а в целом могу всем рекомендовать организовать свой досуг,...

Moscow Museum of Modern Art allows you to see the works of modern Russian artists. There is also a bar near the museum where you can buy drinks and some food. In the museum you can buy souvenirs like in any other museum store. Overall, I'd say that you should definitely visit it. There is a lot of interaction and original works of art that you can't find in traditional galleries. Interior looks great and has really modern feeling about it. So you will feel like you are visiting one of the modern galleries in Europe. The price is not very high - about $10. The museum is located in the city center on the Petrovka street. So if you are in that location I'd definitely recommend...
