Was taking a walk down Last Ramblas after arriving in the city and decided to get off the beaten track for a better eating experience (much of the reviews on the stretch didn't leave much to be desired).
Immediately after stepping in Irati it had a really good vibe and met with the super friendly man behind the bar. He quickly explained how things worked (basically self service, where they count how much you've eaten afterwards - everything has a toothpick in it), and then sorted us out with a few drinks.
First the drinks were perfect, small smooth creamy beer and a glass of crisp dry white wine. On the food side of things, super yummy and varied. Everything is cold, but freshly and expertly made. We sat in the front bar area (there is a restaurant at the back of the bar), so wonder if there is a few hot items that can be ordered.
Overall, great start to the trip! Some hot options might be have been a bonus, but didn't impact our experience. Just have to not be over tempted...
Read moreWe made a reservation a few weeks before arriving in Barcelona in mid-March 2025. Our reservation was for 8:15pm on a Saturday but they seated us 15 mins earlier which was nice.
Our server spoke good English though the restaurant was loud with the tapas bar in front. We ordered still water, wine each (a delicious Tempranillo and a light Chardonnay) and sourdough bread to start. Our server brought pork sausages on the house and they were one of the best things I've ever tasted. Like a near-chorizo Lil Smokie.
My main was a codfish omlette (Basque style is no cheese) and my husband had a matured steak. His eyes rolled back in his head so it must've been tasty. We also ordered twice-baked potato wedges, but they ran out so we got more bread.
Our total came out to €71 (~$78) which was as we expected for a tucked away place like this. The place had a modernized, classic feel. Also, the bathroom was mixed-gender but two...
Read moreWhat a fun experience this was! The food is amazing and even if you didn’t like one thing you picked; it’s only two bites and you’re off to the next thing. You just walk in get a plate and start grabbing anything that looks good for 2€50 ($2.50) I can eat two bites of anything once; so I tried pretty much every single thing in the restaurant because it looked so delicious. The little gals working there had pretty good English so that made it an even better experience. They also just come out and offer you free food to sample while you’re eating (I never turn down free food!) and usually it’s amazing. I ate so much my wife just about had to roll me out the door. I wish they had places like this back home; it would be a once or twice a week habit for me. If you get a chance and have even five minutes; stop and try it out; you won’t regret it. They have plenty of good...
