Negresco Princess — Hotel in Barcelona

Very disappointing stay in Barcelona at this hotel. We checked in on the 24th January and after having paid for a 'Superior' room we were given a standard room with only a double bed. The room was clearly not full however we were given a room on the 1st floor directly above the reception & due to the non existent sound proofing had an awful 1st night with non stop noise from both the bar area & streets outside most of the evening & early morning.|I asked reception for a move the following morning which was accommodated, we clearly stated that the reason for the move was due to the noise issues (we didn't even bother mentioning the bed issue) however we were moved to a room albeit on the 5th floor, it was a connecting room! We were pleased to see that it was a superior room with a larger bed (as advertised), however we unfortunately had to experience a very loud couple in the connecting room next to us for the last 2 days of our trip.|The last night can only be described as an awful experience, with the couple next door seemingly thinking that it is OK at 3/4/5am to come back in from an evening out, and shout/laugh and get passionate with each other so loudly that it was all we could hear! This unfortunately ruined our experience and we would never return.|The hotel take your money on check in and I can only think that they do this because they know this will prevent people complaining about the experience once money for their stay has already been taken from their accounts..|I have a feeling that because we were a relatively young English couple (early 30's) (albeit myself having spanish heritage), that the staff just assumed that we would be out until late every night and would not be bothered about noise etc. This was far from the case and as a couple we had travelled to Barcelona to have a nice break away from our 3 young children. Room (standard renamed basic) overlooking the reception, noisy, small, dark, the window cannot be opened, shower with incessant temperature change, mini bar filled for one person even though there are 2 of us, poor quality finishes, noise from the reception which rises and wakes us up in the morning, the clean Service which does not respect the fact that they must not come and clean the room (red button), photo which does not correspond to the room, we will not return for a totally overpriced price for the service . Clearly not a true 4 star sup! Unpleasant reception, pool with cloudy water and no development. The location is however very good and the view from the roof top too! We have just had a wonderful stay at the Negresco Princess Hotel in Barcelona. The team on reception have been so helpful and accommodating, We want to give a special thank you to Anna and Rubin who have made us feel really valued. The hotel is in an excellent central location with great Metro and Bus links. We were in room 512 (superior room with city view) which was really quiet and comfortable due to its height and location in the hotel.
