Edit: I’ve been accused of lying so I wanted to add a video. They have removed the toilet signs but you can see where the toilets are and where the bus stop is. Also, running after someone from across the patio into the toilet shouting at them is not simply telling them that “toilets are for exclusive use of customers.” We actually saw two flamenco shows in two other places and absolutely loved them.
We were walking past this flamenco theatre deciding if we should visit. The road is famous for its flamenco shows and restaurants and we were walking past with the intention of picking somewhere. I will not be paying them a penny after a rude staff member shouted at my husband from across the large and busy front patio, running after him into the toilet to tell him to get out because he didn’t have a ticket for the show. Bear in mind the toilets are outdoors, next to a bus stop and no sign to say they’re for customers only. For context, we’re on our honeymoon. My husband is a musician and loves flamenco style guitar. It’s been our dream to come here and watch a show. Making all that effort to ensure someone doesn’t use your toilet is quite shocking and inhumane. If they reply to this review justifying their rude reaction it will tell you all you...
Read moreAfter attending 2 flamenco shows per week in Granada for the past 7 weeks, I was very disappointed by what I saw at Zambra Maria La Castaneda.
I was looking for some authentic, family-based flamenco, in a good-looking cave. The cave was good-looking, full of good-luck copper, and the lady at the reception was warm and friendly.
The show, on the other hand, was truly disappointing. The two guitarists where honest but not dexterous, and never provided solos, probably because they were primarily strummers. The singers were average, with unremarkable flamenco voices. One if the female dancers was graceful, although her technique was mediocre. The other two were barely able to dance. As for the male dancer, he was comical to watch rather than impressive: what a disappointment!
So, while it is probably OK to send someone who has never experienced flamenco to this show, any aficionado should absolutely avoid it. Too bad.
If you are interested in good flamenco, my favorites are: the flamenco festivals (primarily in spring/ summer), Pena La Plateria, Taller de Arte Vimaambi, El Tabanco (no dancing there), Los Olvidados (earlier and shorter than most, some nights are much better than others), sometimes Le...
Read moreIt was awesome. A must go. The place is clean and large enough to hold 50 people. But you will be rubbing shoulders against those next to you. So be ready to get cosy and make new friends. And…For god sakes, spray some deo/perfume on and take some for the one sitting next to you. For health reasons, best to spray everyone. The performance was amazing. It was either their energy and passion or it had to do with my presence there. I have my money on their being passionate about their work. The one hour will go by pretty quickly. Sneak in a picture or two. Do not video the performance. Downright disrespectful. Other logistics: forget about taking the bus or the taxi. From the main square, it is about a 12 minute walk. Take it. Get there early. Don’t be over smart with your drinks order. Get the beer or sangria or a bottle of water. Don’t fuss. You probably won’t get your drink. When the performance is done, you are expected to leave, so go home And don’t get comfortable. People have lives to lead you lazy slob....
