The old gateway to the city still has its large wooden door and the heavy paling that was let down in times of danger to bar the entrance to the city. The St. Alban-Tor, known locally as the “Dalbedoor”, is now the gateway to the St. Alban quarter of the city, which, with its narrow, winding streets and historical buildings, is like stepping back in history to the Middle Ages.

One of the nice and historical place in beautiful city of Basel. This is one of the three old gate for the entrance of the city. You can walk through the door. There is no entry fees, it's free. There is also a park nearby where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful view. Nice place to visit.

This is an historic site for Basel, one of the three gates that used to be part of the city wall. The gate has been preserved very nicely, and you can just walk right through it. It's free. There are also park benches nearby, and a papermill down the street (make sure to visit that too).

Das St. Alban-Tor (baseldeutsch Dalbedoor genannt) ist ein ehemaliges Stadttor der Stadt Basel und früherer Bestandteil der Basler Stadtmauer. Es ist eines der drei Stadttore, welche heute noch existieren, und steht unter Denkmalschutz. Das St.-Alban-Tor wurde erstmals 1230 geschichtlich erwähnt. Beim Basler Erdbeben von 1356 wurde die Anlage teilweise zerstört, wurde aber ab 1362 wieder aufgebaut. 1374, im Jahr der Fertigstellung, wird es in einer Wachtordnung wieder explizit erwähnt, jedoch nicht als Stadttor, sondern als Turm, den die Anwohner zu bewachen hätten. Erst 1387 ist in einem Waffeninventar vom «sant Albansthor» die Rede.😉

La porta di Sant'Alban è uno dei tre accessi alla città Svizzera di Basilea, molto ben tenuta e che introduce ad un dedalo di stradine caratteristiche nel quartiere omonimo. Ai piedi della collina si trova il museo della carta col suo mulino(in questo momento in manutenzione, ma comunque visitabile). Come ogni angolo di questa città sono presenti le fontane che fanno da cornice ad un luogo caratteristico come questo. All'esterno della porta un parco e poco più giù il proseguo della Mura. Vale la pena una visita.
