Hotel Motel One Basel — Hotel in Basel

I stayed here for close to a week mid June 2019. I chose this as an alternative to the Radisson Blue and Swissotel, where mostly everyone from our company likes to stay. This Motel One is in a great location, had excellent reviews and was almost half the price compared to the other options.

From check-in to check-out I found this to be a pleasant stay. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon and was checked quickly into my room on the second floor by the friendly front desk clerk. The room was modest, but pleasantly modern, very clean, functional and quiet. It really had everything needed for a business traveler, including an in-room safe and good Wi-Fi. The rooms are relatively small, but 2 people could easily stay here.

I appreciated the modern and "boutique hotel"-like lobby, where they have comfortable seating (even a fireplace) with comfortable chairs to just hang out or work at one of the corner tables. There is a 24 hour (!) bar, where you can buy drinks, refreshments or some snacks/sandwiches.

The hotel is located in a central location right in Basel and everything is pretty much accessible by foot, including museums, landmarks, oodles of restsurants, a grocery store (right around the corner) and easy access to the tram, bus, cabs etc. FYI - the hotel will issue you a ticket so that you can use public transportation for free (and it works great to get around everywhere - the US should really take note here) and gives you 50% discount at museums etc.

I'm definitely staying here again during my future trips to Basel and hope this chain will be able to continue to expand and grow the number of locations they offer. Well...

I recently spent six days in the bed-and-breakfast Motel One, Basel. This hotel is ideally situated in the centre of the old town, and thus perfectly located for the many historic attractions in the vicinity. The hotel's decor in the public areas and bedrooms is very modern and stylish, all enhanced by a peerless level of cleanliness. A continental breakfast is on offer for an additional CHF20.00, and is available in the Lobby of the hotel. This space serves as bar, lounge, and dining areas. There is one large dining table which seats 8-10 persons. This meant that most diners breakfasted at the low seating and tables. As a retired person, I found this rather uncomfortable, if not awkward at times. However, any discomfort was compensated by the staff who, without exception, were courteous, efficient, and friendly at all times - always a plus! The bedroom, and en-suite were both spotlessly clean and adequately equipped. The bed, and easy chair were supremely comfortable, though I did miss the convenience of a desk - table. A small circular coffee table had to suffice. The en-suite bathroom was lovely with a generous supply of good quality towels, shower-gel, and hand-wash. ||This hotel scores highly location, decor, cleanliness, wonderful staff, and I am very pleased to recommend Motel One to holiday-maker and...

After the previous good experiences in other hotels of the same chain, it was easy to opt for the Motel One for our Basel stay.

Location is excellent, right in Barfüsserplatz and consequently at the heart of the Old Town. From the SBB train station, take one of the frequent trams (n.8 or 11) to get here within five minutes.

If, like us, you are going to visit Basel in late November or during the month of December, you will be happy to know that some of the city Weihnachtsmarkt stalls are just outside the door of the hotel.

As per their standards, room is pretty small (but larger than the ones of most sister hotels) and basic, with little furniture (this time we also found a closet and a desk, that were very much appreciated, as the safe) The bathroom is small too, but the shower works very good.

On the other hand, the lobby bar/lounge is spacious and nicely decorated. (breakfast is served here)

WiFi is free of charge and its signal is pretty strong (our room was on the 5th floor).

As always, staff is attentive and very helpful.

If you are fully aware of what you are reserving when staying at a Motel One (an affordable hotel, with modern design and "essential" services), you can only give a high rating. They hardly disappoint you....
