Bern's Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the historic center of the capital city of Switzerland. It is renowned for its well-preserved medieval architecture, charming cobblestone streets, and numerous historical landmarks. It is situated on a peninsula formed by a bend in the Aare River. The layout of the town has remained largely unchanged since the medieval period. The Old Town is known for its covered arcades (Lauben) which extend for miles and make Bern one of the longest covered shopping promenades in Europe. A walking tour is the best way to explore Bern's Old Town. You can take a guided tour to learn about the history and significance of various landmarks, or explore at your own pace. Be sure to visit the Zytglogge (Clock Tower), one of Bern's most famous landmarks, to watch the clock's elaborate mechanisms and figures in action as the hour changes. Don't miss the area's selection of chocolate shops. Explore the Swiss Federal Palace, home to the Swiss government, and take a guided tour to learn about the country's political system and history. Visit the Bear Park near the Old Town to see Bern's emblematic animals. Finally, take a stroll along the Aare River for beautiful views of the city and surrounding hills. Bern's Münster Cathedral is an iconic landmark with an impressive façade and beautiful stained glass windows. Climb the tower for panoramic views of the city. The Einstein Museum, located in the building where Albert Einstein lived while in Bern, offers insight into the famous physicist's life and work. Kramgasse is one of the main streets in the Old Town, lined with shops, cafes, and historic buildings. It leads to the Zytglogge and provides a lively atmosphere. The Old Town is also dotted with colorful and ornate fountains from the Renaissance period, each with its own unique design and history. The Rosengarten (Rose Garden) offers beautiful views of the Old Town and is a great spot to relax and take photos. The Old Town is best explored on foot, but there are also trams and buses available for easy transport.

Walking across the centuries! We were looking for an Internet Cafe on Google Maps. Still taste of vegetarian food from Tibits (founded in 2000) Bern Bahnhof, this led to a memorable walking tour through the Old City of Bern built in 1200s. Walking on Route 8, we crossed the church field bridge (Kirchenfeldbrücke, built in 1883). Looking to the right, through the construction fence, I stabilized my iPhone X and took a couple of photos of picture-perfect view of historic architecture to the right of the bank of river Aare. Next random sighting was the magnificent mechanical clock tower (Zytglogge, built in the 13th century). Finally, a walk on the historic street (Marktgasse, from those ancient times), a hectic marketplace with a seemingly harmonious blend of old architecture, countless shops and the buses - a symbol of state of art public transport from the modern era.

The Bern's Old Town is the No.1 Must See Place when you go to Bern. I admit that I had doubts before I came here but then, I fully understood why this old town had become a UNESCO World Heritage site! Its calmness, red colour roofed medieval buildings, long cobbled streets, colourfully painted fountains, & the beautiful & elegant clock towers, have made this Old Town be possibly the most pretty & best-preserved Historic Town in Switzerland! The west side of the Old Town is more busy as it's filled with shops, restaurants & markets, whereas the east side is more quiet, calm & peaceful. Tips: It's easy to get here from the Bern's Station too, just look up & follow the Zetgloge clock tower or the Kafigturm tower. Highly recommended for anyone who visited Switzerland!

Bern Old Town Visited 18/9/2019 At the end of Nydeggbrücke Bridge lies the old town of Bern. Although not a true thoroughfare for motor vehicles, buses, delivery vehicles and some private cars run along the cobble stone street. It is just one long street, known as Kramgasse. It is very clean and flanked by four-storey buildings, all restored to the former glory. The Einsteinhaus (Einstein House) is a museum and a former residence of Albert Einstein. It is located on No. 49 Kramgasse in Bern, Switzerland. Einstein, his wife and and son lived in aa apartment on second floor from 1903 to 1905. Bern is known as the City of Fountains. Apart from their decorative character and interesting history, the cool water flowing from the fountain spouts is drinkable.
