A treasure trove of all kinds of beautiful and historic Thai coins showing their evolution from ancient times all the way up to the current day and everything in between. You get to see both coins used in everyday life as well as commemorative issues. On top of that, there are also collections of coins from almost every other country. All the exhibits are accompanied with lots of signs and plaques giving detailed contextual information in both Thai and English. Lastly there's a small gift shop on site that sells commemorative coins.
Unfortunately, you can't go in without a guide. The way the exhibits were presented, with detailed explanations in text as well as interactive areas for kids, it was clear that the original intention was for the public to freely explore the museum, but something happened and the policy was changed. The standard tour is 1.5 hours and available in either Thai or English, but the 3pm tour which was the last before closing time is only an hour. We got the 3pm tour and the guide was fantastic but even 1.5 hours wouldn't have been enough to really appreciate all that the museum has to offer. The mandatory introductory and closing films also felt too long for the time that we had.
Still, it's very much worth the trip, even several trips if you have time. The ticket is 50 baht (same price for Thai and foreigner) and nothing stops you from going through the tour again to spend more time in the rooms to see things that you missed the previous...
Read morePretty interesting museum that covers the development of currency in general, and the modernization of Thai currency from the 1750s to modern day especially. Entrance fee for farang is higher than Thai. Displays are fun and the content was fun to learn about, despite it being a kind of dry subject. There is an hour-long guided tour - our guide largely spoke Thai, and there are many English displays for supplementing information in the tour. Not the most amazing museum I've been to, but pretty good for what it is and better...
Read moreI was passing by so many times and didn't think that this museum is so amazing. I am not really into museums but entrance is free, if you want a tour guide it is 50 bht only, it is not just about Thailand but also about its history, they have some rooms with old furniture, tv's, radios and photos. It took us 2 hours to run around all 3 floors. They have two rooms with video ( in Thai only but their girl translated most of the time). I think it can be used as an educational part if you want to know something...
