We started off with trainee Ben. Friendly, helpful but i think management needs to train the newcomers better. Didn't do anything wrong but needs more experienced guidance. But i guess all staff are overloaded due to Christmas.||Sleep. The main reason why we will very likely not be back to stay. To eat at their restaurants, we will definitely come back. To sleep, highly unlikely. Firm beds. Too hard for us. Didn't sleep well. 1st night was the worst. ||Khun Mint of operator/instant service picked up many of my calls. Always cheerful and helpful. Khun Mild of housekeeping was really efficient and very polite. Made a few rounds including setting up supposedly softer mattress toppers. Which were more comforters than toppers. And was observant enough to notice we were out of bottled water too. |Getting the comforters took 3 hours of waiting due to high occupancy. In the end, still poor sleep. Funny because we stayed here a year ago and the beds weren't so bad. Maybe different choice of rooms - lower tier room now??||Room is dim with the window drapes drawn. It is nice and bright when curtains are opened up. But the design of the room was overall ok. Good that there are a few 3 pin plug units and USB ports for us to charge our devices.||Bathroom night light just perfect for middle of the night visits. But it had hardly any places to hang hand towels or used bath towels which we usually reuse. ||Khun Pla at Nami provided friendly and excellent service! She took the initiative to check our previous order from a year back to advise us what we chose.|Generous portion served for teppanyaki. Loved the prawn appetiser with pickled cucumbers. |Even the fried rice for 2 came up to 3 bowls. The Hokkaido scallops were delicious! ||Mornings: This is still one of the best buffet breakfast in Bangkok metropolitan area. Daily breakfast at the restaurant was good with a wide array that now includes gluten free bread!! And definitely the best gf bread I have ever had. A lot of cold drinks included in the price. The pineapples are the sweetest I've had. And the chef makes good omelettes with a plethora of ingredients such as salmon, bacon, ham, spring onions, capsicum etc. I like that they use proper eggs instead of pouring out of a carton.||Many anti-inflammatory foods offered. Freshly squeezed carrot juice, broccoli, pineapples, watermelon juice, dragonfruit, nuts.|Plus all the decadent trappings such as actual honeycomb rack, ice cream, waffles, pancakes and french toasts.||BBCO was our hangout between check-out and limo airport transfer. Service efficient with the offer of takeaway cups for our milkshakes was a lovely gesture when they found out that we were heading for our flight. The BBCO Brioche Club was fantastic. Perfect really. I haven't had such a delicious Club Sandwich. Even the ones in Japan can't beat this. The milkshakes however, need more ice cream than milk. We had strawberry cheesecake and also the salted caramel oreo milkshakes.||This hotel is great. Our dislike of the mattress' firmness is just due to medical conditions. They are probably more suited for hursts who sleep on their backs instead if side sleepers. ||We will be back for the restaurants. The hotel's redeeming quality is their staff. One of the best we have encountered in our recurring trips to the country. And the Japanese restaurant is top notch. I just hope they invest in softer...

Guests Platinum and above can currently receive Club benefits during happy hour near the lobby because the Club Lounge is temporarily closed. At the moment They offer a quality a la carte menu straight from the kitchen and two hours of drinks and cocktails. For 30 USD per night and considering the value of food & beverage we received, it made the room essentially free.

Hotel staff told me that all suites are on floors 36-39 and those floors were entirely closed so I knew before going to the hotel that our chances of a suite upgrade were zero. I booked the entry level room and ended up in an Executive room (I think); I am not sure what is the difference between the first categories of room types because they are all 34 square meters. Anyway the quality of the room was good and I especially liked the marble floor and limited use of carpet which was only around the bed. The shower / tub enclosure was very large and also had marble all around. Considering other hotels in this price range that we visited recently, the room was superior to competitors, in fact I think I liked that room better than some suites we received at other hotels which is unusual.

Last year there was no breakfast buffet and the a la carte menu was excellent, this year the buffet has returned. I found the choices to be above average including a daily rotation of curries, fried rice with protein (not only vegetarian), nice pieces of grilled fish (salmon, sea bass), etc.

Happy hour has been cut back to 2 hours only (5:30pm-7:30pm) but as mentioned above the good news is that they retained the a la carte menu compared to our stay last year. As far as “lounge food” goes, this hotel is hard to beat. For the price guests currently have to pay at this hotel it was surprisingly good quality, in fact guests could order whatever they wanted from the menu and as many times as they wanted so it could easily be a meal and the menu changed every day. Drinks included cocktails and not only house wine and beer. It is possible to pay as low as 30 USD per night for the room if combining with Megatix, I doubt there are many nice restaurants in Bangkok where a couple can get a multiple-course dinner including cocktails for this price, and we still get the most important part as it’s a hotel after all: a room for the night!

Wifi speed was unstable during our stay. Upload speed was generally good, varying between 30-80 Mbps but I clocked download speed as low as 4 Mbps and as high as 30 Mbps depending on the time of day. This was different than my stay last year where everything was smooth, consequently it seems wifi is more problematic since the hotel occupancy has gone up.

Overall for 30 USD per night the value was undeniable and even considering the many offers in hotels in Bangkok at the moment, Marriott Sukhumvit is one of the best deals one can find even without the suite upgrade. The little cherry on top for value is that they even provided two free pieces of laundry per day for guests Platinum and above. Given the above average quality of the room I will be inclined to return in the future when things are back to normal to see...

As with all hotels in Thailand you can rarely fault the staff nor the service. No longer so at The Marriott Sukhumvit Soi 57. Its the small things that make the difference, its also the small details not achieved that mount up and then one thing to many happens and you see the entire experience in a different light. Its how you handle a crisis determines how good you are at managing such. The staff handling our complaint were horrendous and made us feel as if we were free loaders seeking a free meal. Until covid i was a titanium member. My guest that eveing still is. He also was laid low for 24 hours. In 9 yeqrs with Marriot i dont recall ever complaining about food nor having been so poorly treated . We stayed 2 nights, food poisioning on the first night eating in the Octave restaurant ruined us for 24 hours. When highlighting it to reception on the monring of check out,( the first time we left our room after we had dinner on the first evening). We were promptly told no one else had complained of food posioning. At this point i hadnt told him which restauarnt we dined at! He promised to speak to the restaurant manager. We checked out 6 hours later having heard nothing. The head chef Frederik and the restuarant manager were summoned when i raised our complaint. Note i did not ask for the bill to be deducted. The first question they asked was if we had called the Doctor. Apprarently the severity of your illness is measured by how close to death you are. We apparently were much too healthy to be considered for an apology let alone the check being struck. A litany of defences spewed forth from both, mainly centred around the point that no one of the 339 diners diners had complained. I find it hard to beleice 339 diners were in the enture hotel as Octave only had 9 tables whilst we sat there!Once again the measurement of illness and honesty is based upon the need to have sickness on a mass scale before its taken seriously. The manageress offered to discount the bill by 20%, which i politley pointed out was not the point of the exercise. Clearly they neither trusted nor cared for our opinion nor for the fact that we cancelled the 0630h am visit to the train market and floating market as we were firmly glued to the toilet!! Many things you let slide until you see the true nature of the beast under the skin. Concierge were perfunctory, nodding and appearing busy but twice we had to remind them to order the cab. The Club Lounge is one of the poorest in Marriott, its too small, smells of cooked food and as experienced on other visits is so full of desperate free loaders seeking cheap booze that you rarely find a seat. That said the manageress of the Club is a superstar and always makes you feel welcome and goes the extra mile to help. Octave restaurant and rooftop bar is a poor relation to its former days . Its tired , its doesnt attract outsiders as it did in its hey day and there are simply many more and much better choices in the neighbourhood. As conveyed by Frederik and the restaurant manageress , guest satisfaction is not an important factor in this...
