Read moreAlready visited the old town in the past but not on a Sunday so this time we decided we needed to see the place, the vibes in there on Sunday especially excited for the Sunday market.
The market is huge and extended over many streets of old town but they offer repetitive options. Street food stations ( non-halal) and only few fruit and other snacks.
The shops are mostly the same and repeated over the whole place. The roads are very crowded and u could barely walk free without slamming into another. The shops are very crowded and you can barely see what's offered.
We came in a taxi for about 40 mins from Patong Beach which cost us around 600 TB each way and literally couldn't spend more than an hr and had to leave. By the way... by 10 PM everything is closed. Such a disappointment.
If you haven't visited the old town then it's anytime but Sunday evening. So you could spend your time, enjoy a proper meal or snack and take photos...
Read moreThe Lard Yai Sunday Night Market in Phuket Town has become a topic of much debate among visitors, especially during the peak season when it's nearly impossible to navigate due to the crowds. While it's undeniably more accessible during the low season, it still doesn't live up to the hype for many. The market is crammed with tourist-oriented stalls, offering little in the way of unique or authentic shopping experiences. Moreover, the food, often cited as a highlight, can easily be found at any other night market on the island, making the trip to Phuket Town feel redundant for some.
Despite marginally lower prices, which seem to be about 5% cheaper than elsewhere, there's a consensus that this slight discount hardly justifies the effort, especially if you're not staying nearby. The charm and allure of discovering something special or exclusive to the Lard Yai Sunday Night Market appear to be overshadowed by its overcrowded walkways and the prevalence of generic merchandise that caters more to a tourist's expectation than to a seeker of authentic Thai market experiences.
In summary, unless you're lodging in the vicinity, the Lard Yai Sunday Night Market might not be worth the trek. For those looking for a more genuine and less congested market experience in Phuket, exploring other night markets on the island could prove to be more rewarding.
