Atmosphere and service are commendable, but the cuisine falls flat. Michelin stars feel undeserved.
Atmosphere & Location
Day and Night of Phuket presents itself as a two-time Michelin-starred restaurant. Yet the impression falters immediately: the venue sits in a pedestrian-heavy area, with a tout at the entrance — something completely out of place for haute cuisine. Inside, the décor and mood are pleasant and inviting, but the exterior undermines the promise of fine dining.
Service
Here the restaurant shines. The staff is polite, smiling, attentive, and even asks about allergies. This is a clear positive and the only aspect truly worthy of praise. Still, there were flaws: dishes were not served together, as we had requested, but rather as they were ready. As a result, pasta cooled while I waited for my salad. Staff noticed, panicked, and tried to recover, but the lack of coordination was obvious.
Menu
The menu feels both “extensive” and “limited” at the same time: many options, yet nothing remarkable. A few attempts at signature dishes exist, but in reality — these are standard items you could find in neighboring restaurants for a fraction of the price. For Michelin recognition, this is strikingly weak: no innovation, no clear chef’s identity, only an illusion of variety.
Dishes • Cheese pasta — my partner summed it up perfectly: “Just plain noodles.” Nothing more to add. • Caesar salad — a culinary disaster. Bacon so dry it seemed pre-packaged, store-bought croutons from stale bread, and a dressing so overloaded with garlic it drowned out everything else. I managed only a couple of bites before giving up. • Chicken wings — served with plain mayonnaise mixed with chopped onions. This isn’t gastronomy; it’s cafeteria food.
The only thing truly enjoyable? Thai tea. Ironically, the drink was the star of the evening in a restaurant supposedly crowned by Michelin.
Conclusion
Day and Night of Phuket is a disappointment. It thrives more on its status than on its cuisine. Yes, the service is excellent, but the food fails to meet even basic expectations — let alone those of a Michelin-starred establishment. The lingering question remains: What exactly did Michelin reward here? Perhaps the service. But certainly not...
Read moreThe COFFEE are REALLY IMPRESSIVE!! The taste and quality I don’t find from any Cafe here yet, because these can only be achieved through Quality Roasting and Equipment, which is found at Black & White Specialty Coffee. They truly deserve the number one spot for Coffee in Phuket in my opinion.
Black and White Specialty Coffee lived up to its name. It has everything I look for in a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. A first in Phuket Cafe.
As a Coffee Connoisseur, FLAVOR and AROMA matters, their Signature Cold Brew on the Rock (which apparently wasn’t served on a rock, with small ice cubes instead😩) : Costa Rica Musicians Series Mozart (180 THB) was super clean and crisp. (I have brewed this batch at home before and they made them the exact same taste as I did. Pure and Light with distinct flavor. Really nice. When I got these beans for myself, the price was pretty high, so their price is very understandable. Worth the value 👍🏻) 🤩
✨La Boisson De Kanda (200 THB) ✨(AWARD WINNER 2016) is a MUST-TRY! If you don’t usually drink coffee, I recommend you try this because they are nicely blend and mixed with a really refreshing flavor. It ain’t awarded for nothing you know. This has earned the number 1 spot out of the drinks I’ve tried today.
Yuzu Cold Brew (180 THB) and Rosie Es Tonic (170 THB) are great, would be loved by those who prefer something fruitty and fizzy. The Espresso was made with House Blend (Columbia, Brazil, Kenya, Ethiopia), this alone give a fruitty flavor and aroma, but when poured into the Rose Sparkling it was a little overpowered.
Food and desserts are ok. Nothing special about the Basque Burnt Cheesecake (160 THB) or Cheesy Fries (240 THB).
Decor and ambience were AMAZING! I loved it! Comfortable seatings, nice lighting, spacious and really cool air conditioning. Since, it’s also a restaurant, I thought they might have unpleasant smell, but they managed the ventilation pretty well, so it didn’t intervene with the...
Read moreWas quite surprised by how many people rated this restaurant so highly and the fact that its on the Michelin guide
Lets start with the best part
Atmosphere and decor - beautiful place, nice plating etc. Elegant glassware when ordering cocktails and food is fairly well presented
The menu is a bit chaotic and the western vs. Thai menu is a bit odd - you can get thai food but also chips, pizza and sashimi for some reason
Service was pretty good (nothing like in the negative comments about late food and ignoring people). We had very attentive waiters/waitresses, but a bit too attentive at times with asking us few times if everything is to our liking
Finally the main problem - the food. We ordered multiple of the recommended dishes.
The watermelon fried fish dish was ok (best out of our selection) - watermelon wasn’t too juicy but the fried fish made it into a nice sweet and salty flavour
The worst dish (not sure of the name) was scallops with salty egg and some cream and greens - the scallops where perfectly cooked and “meaty”… but the egg was extremely overpowering the flavour and with the rest of the dish it didn’t go well at all
Second worst was the pork belly in light soup. Again, the main protein was perfectly cooked, however the soup was so sweet mixed with a large amount of cinnamon and star seed that it tasted like a liquid Big Red chewing gum
We also ordered egg fried rice with salty fish - after the scallop egg dish, we couldn’t tell anymore if it was salty
Desert was again just ok - the panna cotta was definitely not a classic one as it was full of gelatine or something to make it keep shape for a long time. The strawberry cream that came with it was quite pleasant and the thai tea ice cream we ordered extra was ok too
Cocktails were ok, selection was decent although my first choice was not available...
