This hotel does only partly feel like a five star experience.
The lobby is beautiful, clean and smells delicious. Reception staff is super friendly and takes really good care of the guests. Honestly, the staff is what feels the most like a five star experience. First faux pas during check in: If you want the complementery welcome drink, you have to prepare it yourself, draining chrisanthemum juice from a container that gives a feeling like you are in a youth hostel. I have been to three star hotels which offered better service in this area.
Pool: The pool is on floor 7 and NOT an infinity pool. Neither is a nice view from the pool available. Someone uploaded pictures from a different Ascott location in Bangkok with an infinitiy pool but that is not showing this location. The pool area is also not half as beautifully lit at night, as the picture uploaded by Ascott themselves makes you belive.
If you want pool towels, you have to fetch them yourself at the gym on floor six. Another thing where many three star hotels outshine the Ascott. Since the pool is open until 10pm and the gym closes at 9pm on weekends, you have to plan ahead if you would like to use the pool in the evening hours of a weekend.
Rooms: I rented an Executive Studio and specifically asked for a room with a view, if possible. I was placed on sixth floor with a view at the wall of the neighboring building. I understand that not every request can be fulfilled, but that again felt rather disappointing.
The room itself is rather spacious with a big fridge, washing/dryer combo, separate bathtub and shower as well as a dining and living area. Walls and furniture have seen better days and need a replacement or fixing/repainting to fit the five star standard. The complementary bananas were a nice extra but I would have preferred to just get more than the exactly two coffee capsules for two guests.
While the AC in the bedroom is working fine, the AC in the living area is of poor condition and barely cools the room down. Both ACs are wall controlled and you do not get a remote, so if you feel too cold or hot while in bed, your only option is to get up and walk to the door to change the AC settings. Another thing that most three star hotels in Thailand do better. Edit: After three failed tries at fixing the AC and them telling me it is all fine now each time, they upgraded me to a slightly better room with actually working AC.
The breakfast which is served in the cafe next to the pool is not bad, but the available selection of foods could be larger. The cafe seems to be a bit understaffed at timew which leads to the waiters hectically running around, disturbing the tranquility of the place. Again something where I have seen better in way cheaper hotels. While each one of the cafe doors is printed with a dresscode (no swimwear, no sportswear, no flip flops, etc.), noone seems to care about those rules, neither guests nor staff.
All in all a not good, not terrible package. Next time I would chose another hotel though, since there are many with a similar price and...
Read moreRooms: Very nice views (5/6 pictures) and a lot of variety. Very lovely showers. Written much more further on.
Service: Yes. This was amazing service; lovely staff everywhere, they were very thorough with their cleaning of the room, And a lot of hygiene things they kept putting everywhere. Very happy with this aspect.
Amenities: Complimentary gym (haven't been). Complimentary pool is very nice and has a kid circle and a big rectangle, get towels from Cascade Club - which can be a bit of a hassle depending on what floor you are staying on. Nice and clean and big, floor very asthaetically pleasing as well as the outside with cabanas round it that are named after wine (e.g. pinot grigio, merlot), and right next to café.
Reception: Welcome drink is nice although slow to "pour". Good sofas. Overall a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.
Restaurant downstairs: part of the downstairs, but there is a tiny bit of outside between doors. Quite pub-ish, with football and a pool table, plus friendly service and amazing live music (I still can't get over quite how good the music was). Lovely menu, good prices. The food was delicious and various: that coupled with the lovely raw atmosphere forged the pub/restaurant hybrid into a feat of true culinary excellence.
Restaurant upstairs: I liked this place alot. AC was off but fixed now. The food is high quality and the drinks are solid. It's next to the pool and plays good music of a lesser volume, creating a warm, tropical atmosphere. Also they have old-fashioned paintings of "people" with chicken heads in fancy attire! The bar is nice, lots of drinks and lots of food.
Cabanas: You can eat in the cabanas. They are named after famous wines and have cosy atmospheres and vibrantly coloured sofas. There are different shapes and sizes and the full extent of their amazing design of those little poolside buildings leave me in awe of what humans can achieve.
Overall a lovely place, checks all my boxes and I give it a...
Read moreBooked a four nights stay in a 2-bedrooms deluxe apartment for a family holiday in end of Feb 23. The apartment is really spacious (123sq metre) and well located within 3 minutes walk to St Louis BTS station. It has a wonderful gym though the operating hours are shorter on weekend. Maintenance of the apartment is above average. However, the TV console table has some shelves that are misplaced and the sink tap/shower head are loose.
All is good except for a few incidents during our stay. When we first entered the apartment, we were 'greeted' by a mid-size cockroach. We managed to kill it and showed the picture to the reception on the way out and requested to have it removed. When we returned, it was gone but the housekeeping did not clean up the stain. The stain was not cleaned throughout our 4 days stay, as the stain remained when we checked out. We saw another cockroach on the kitchen top on the third night, but didn't mange to catch it.
The MOST unpleasant experience was the fact that on the third night, when we decided to use the microwave oven to heat up our food, we realised that some sausages were left behind in the oven. Was it from the precious guests?? Or ... We called the operator and Mr Pop - the line manager dropped by to check on this. We also let him know of the maintenance and cockroach issues.
He requested us to send him the picture of the food left in the oven. So far, we have yet to hear from the management.
We do hope that the management are aware of our feedback and make this wonderful apartment to be a...
