At first you feel, oh! Did I sign up for this? Should I go to my fancy hotels hammam rather than getting hammam done here. But once the hammam begins, you start feeling at ease.
For starters, this place is very well kept. May not have the chic 5 star vibe but extremely neat and clean.
It’s located in a small bylane 5 min away from the old town. The baths are separate for both men and women. So basically no couple bathing option or private bathing option, which is clearly mentioned, it’s a traditional style public bath.
It’s quite reasonably priced compared to others in the town and generally has good number of people coming in, proving that they must be doing something good. You are provided a peshtemal( towel), locker room and a key to change and keep your belongings. You can change into either underwear/shorts, take off everything else and cover yourself with the towel and head to the Turkish bath area. There you sleep on the heated stone( around 30-32 degree Celsius) for 10 min followed by sauna and then head to steam room. Once these procedures are completed, the masseuse assists you to the soap scrub where literally every speck of dirt from your body is scrubbed off. After which you are washed with hot water. Once you finish the soap scrub and massage; you are served hot Turkish tea or apple tea on a relaxed rocking chair and then you head to the oil massage room which is the final step of the hammam bath.
You can individually choose each of the steps or take a complete package. The entire package took around 2 hours to complete. All in all, despite earlier inhibitions this was an amazing experience. Must try once in life.
Cons: I wished it was chic and fancy. Possibility of private/couple bath options.
If you have BP, or not used to very high temperatures, you can select or avoid sauna and extra steam options or reduce the time for same.
Make sure you carry an extra pair of clothes. I saw some ladies even carry soap, shampoo to shower after oil massage.
My masseuse suggested I keep the oil and let it seep in my body which was fine as the oil is quite aromatic...
Read moreWell if you are looking for premium then this is not the place. I had a whole Turkish bath package including steaming, scrubbing, bubbling, and oil massage for 800 lira and mask for 145 lira. I followed other review’s recommendation coming in 10:00 AM in weekday morning. It looked like they were short of staff so my cousin and I were instructed to lie on the steam marble for a very long time until we walked out to see if anyone would like to help us take a bath. I saw other people mentioned they had pre sauna, sauna and steam. But for us, we only lay there forever. Then, there was a lady coming in and helping both of us so we needed to take turns for the same lady. She did not explain the whole process at all. It might because they were not fluent in English. But she used the same scrubber for both of us and the whole process was kind of mediocre. When we moved on to bubbling, there were still some dead skins from scrubbing section that have not been flushed out. When she was flushing out, she also did not warn you to hold your breath. And definitely learning how to say gentler in Turkish would help a lot because scrubbing was a little bit brutal and intensive. We had some small rush all over the bodies after the bath. The massage was also mediocre without any checking in which was fine. But the ladies non stop chatted during the whole massage session. I had massages in the US, Taiwan, and Thailand. I never saw this kind of low price and mediocre service before. So I guess you paid what you got and my skin did become smoother and the Turkish hot marble was really comfortable. Please take a look at other reviews before you come in...
Read moreI have booked a full package plus 1 hour massage with hotel pick up and drop off over the phone. Price was 160 TL. On the way to hamam, the driver told me that they accept cash only. The service there was average. I was finished with both scrub and soap massage far quicker than the two local ladies who started after me. While having my tea at the reception/waiting area I noticed two local ladies paying by card - a fact the shocked me and made me suspicious considering the fact that I had do stop by ATM to withdraw money and pay commission for it. The massage was okay, but I could not relax at all as the employees and the TV from the reception were extremely loud (they didn't stop screaming even after my masseuse asked them to be more sensitive). After a while, I had to pause my massage to go and get my phone and headsets to play music. They insisted on me paying cash as their machine did not work. Then machine worked but price got to be 175TL which i did not agree to pay. Finally their machine magically worked and I payed 160 TL as agreed. Off course they weren't happy (despite generous and not deserved tip I gave). The driver/owner didn't bother to reply to my 'thank you, good night' greeting at the end. Bottom line, the treatment to tourists differs from the one given to locals. I hope my feedback will help you get clearer picture and take the right decision of getting a...
