This course has an interesting layout with some challenging holes. The fairways and semi rough are well cared for and in good condition and the sand in the bunkers is excellent and of high quality. But...
The rough is so thick and long that it is virtually impossible to find a ball. I appreciate that the fairways and semi are wide, but we're not all the best of golfers. Perhaps an area of longer, proper rough would stop many of our wayward shots from running into the thick jungle.
The greens. I can only describe them as appalling, the worst by a long way that I have ever played on. It looks though many of them have been blighted by some sort of disease, but it seems that little effort has been made to ameliorate this situation. Too often we were putting over bare earth or the poorly laid turf that, in a few places, had been laid to replace the diseased parts. On top of that the greens were incredibly slow, at times found with a mixture of grasses, some of which were of the coarse variety that I might use on a play lawn. Luckily for us we only paid £5 each for the round, as the club had a special offer on between 10.30 and 11.30 on weekdays. I certainly wouldn't pay the full green fee to play there, and if I had I would be asking for my money back.
The clubhouse is very pleasant with friendly staff and a good selection of food, including mince and tatties! The locker rooms were very attractively furnished, a credit to the club. Would I play the again? Yes, but only when the greens and the state of the rough has...
Read morePlayed this course on a Monday in the week. Some spectacular views and nice holes, but the greens could have been in better condition (I think they are diseased). Nevertheless, I enjoyed it - no complaints from me.
Despite the above, I tried to play later in the week whilst it was raining. The course was completely empty apart from a party of 12 which had just set off. Playing as a 1 ball I asked the secretary if rather than getting stuck behind a party of 12, I could tee off from the 12th which Ian by the clubhouse and was empty and work my way back to the 1st hole an hour later. I was met with a ‘no, because it messes it up for others’. The secretary would have been dead right had it not been for the fact that the course was empty and there were still 30/40 tee slots available left in the day... madness really, I’ve played a lot of courses and they are generally always very accommodating. I wouldn’t mind so much, but it was just an unhelpful approach to what would otherwise have made for a nice visit again. Leaves a bit of a...
Read moreWe couldn't keep away from this golf house. And we don't play golf. Carvery was beautiful. Don't just take that photo as everything as I'm picky. There was about 8 other items to have also. Including mint sauce and horse radish and more. The breakfast also beautifully cooked with. Choice of 3,6.9,12 item meal and a choice of about 10 different items. 10 pound minimum to pay on card but they will offer cash back then take payment out of that so all is well. We haven't tried the chippy night on Wednesday or curry night on Thursday but we will soon. Any questions just feel free to ask. Oh and friendly dogs welcome also from what I...
