Just on the edge of the city centre this could probably be considered a bit off the beaten track - my trip today with my youngest daughter was probably the first time I've been there in at least thirty years. While there's plenty of interest here, including an exhibit on the Leicestershire regiments that I think used to be housed in the New Walk Museum, I wouldn't say it's the best place to take very young children - while my two year old loved playing with the till and play food in the corner of the haberdashery exhibit and a quick walk round the garden, it was hard to interest her in most of the other distribution displays, and she really didn't like going through the World War 1 trench exhibit due to the darkness and noise. However, if I could ditch the kids for the best part of a day (since the museum doesn't open until 10am), I'd be more than happy to come back by myself or with another adult to look around. In terms of accessibility, I got on just about ok going round with a pushchair, and there is a lift between floors.

Visited the Newark Houses Museum recently and had a fantastic experience! The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful, making the visit even more enjoyable. The museum itself is truly impressive with its extensive collection and informative displays. I was amazed by the variety of exhibits that showcased the rich history of the area. The attention to detail in each section was evident, and it's clear that a lot of effort has been put into creating an engaging and educational experience for visitors. Kudos to the staff for their warm hospitality and to the museum for providing such a well-curated and extensive journey through history. Highly recommend a visit to anyone curious about the past and eager to explore the local heritage!

I visited this museum as I kept walking past it most days and always wondered what it was like inside. Turns out that it is a wonderful little place that explains a lot about the culture and industry of the city. Upstairs is dedicated to the regiment of Leicestershire and explains a lot about them. I also saw the temporary display about the Blitz of Leicester, which was my second favourite part of the museum. The garden is worth visiting as it is so relaxing to sit outside with all of the nature. As someone who enjoys photographing plants and animals, I made sure to take a look. Overall, this museum is a fun few hours for either the locals or visiters to the city.

What an unexpected surprise! I visited this museum for no other reason than my friend wanted to see "the big chair" and was amazed at the range of displays and the size of the museum. The chap on the welcome desk was very friendly and helpful as were the other members of staff we spoke to. Very well presented information on a range of topics and historical time periods and best of all, free entry! Out of all of the museums available, it isn't one that I initially would have thought to visit but I'm glad I did!

This was a nice place to visit with an eclectic collection of things to see from Leicester's past. From toys to collections of donated war medals and stories, every room held my attention. I wasn't ready for the replica 1950s street in the middle of it though, done really well and makes you pause in surprise. It's child friendly, free(you can donate to support them), has toilets and a very nice garden to enjoy.
