As a Local Guide and someone who’s always on the lookout for authentic deshi flavours, I had the chance to try the Boishakh menu at Nasta Pani in Portsmouth, and honestly, it brought back such warm memories of home.
From the moment you step into Nasta Pani, the vibe is colourful, welcoming and filled with the aroma of traditional Bengali cooking. Their special Boishakh thali menu is such a beautiful way to celebrate the New Year with flavours that speak straight to the heart.
I tried the Panta Thali with Elish Vaja, and it was everything I hoped for. The panta bhaat had just the right level of tanginess, and the range of bhortas that came with it —aloo, daal, begun, tomato and morich each added its own punch. The Elish was crispy on the outside, soft inside and bursting with flavour. A proper classic done right.
They’ve got some amazing other options too. The Chitoi Thali with dhonia pata and tomato bhorta is simple but comforting. The Beef Jhuri Thali is rich, spicy and full of character. And for those with a sweet tooth, the Chiraa Thali with doi, kola and gur is the perfect ending.
One thing you definitely shouldn’t miss is their Tong er Cha and Gur er Payesh. It’s the kind of treat that makes you pause and just enjoy the moment.
All in all, Nasta Pani is more than just a place to eat. It’s a space where our culture, food and community come together and during Boishakh, that feeling is even more special. If you’re in or around Portsmouth, this place is a must-visit.

If you’ve ever found yourself craving the warmth, the soul, and the unapologetic flavour of authentic Bangladeshi home cooking, this is your sign. I just tried the special beef bhuna khichuri at Nasta Pani in Portsmouth and let me tell you: I was not ready. One bite and I was mentally transported straight to a family table in Dhaka during a rainy day, the aroma of slow-cooked spices, the melt-in-your-mouth beef, the perfectly balanced khichuri… it’s not just food, it’s nostalgia on a plate.
This isn’t your watered-down “curry house” fare. This is the real deal. The kind of food your Bangladeshi aunties would nod at in approval. Rich, comforting, spiced to perfection, it made me genuinely emotional (yes, over khichuri! and I have zero regrets).
Nasta Pani, I don’t know what kind of sorcery you’re working with back there in that kitchen, but keep doing it. You’ve set a new bar for authenticity in the UK. And as someone lucky enough to live right here in Portsmouth, I’m counting my blessings (and planning my next visit).
10/10. Will be dreaming about that beef bhuna khichuri...

I ordered a lot of food from this restaurant and the experience was beyond disappointing. Several items were missing, including my dessert Falooda, and even the thali was incomplete. The worst part? I ordered Chicken Pulao and it came WITHOUT chicken – literally just rice!
I had ordered Lamb Bhuna, but they called saying lamb wasn't available and offered to replace it with duck. I agreed – but what they sent was just bones with no meat at all. Completely unacceptable!
When I tried to call and complain, they blocked my number instead of resolving the issue. That is disgraceful customer service.
Also, the order said 20 minutes delivery, but it took over an hour to arrive. And for what? Poor quality, cold, tasteless, incomplete food. If they have nothing available, why are they open and showing as available on Just Eat?
This was a total waste of money and time. I was starving and ended up with garbage food. Honestly, this place should be shut down if they can’t even deliver what they promise.
Do yourself a favour – avoid this restaurant...
