Buchanan Galleries — Attraction in Great Britain

Not all heroes wear capes! We parked in Buchan Galleries car park last week while we attended a concert at the Royal Concert Hall. It was so convenient. Especially when I was travelling with my disabled Mum. The location disabled parking spots made things so much easier for us. We did see the signs stating the car park closed at 9. In our minds we thought perhaps naively that we would be able to leave the car park after this time. But no new cars would be allowed in. In line with other car parks we have used. Probably stupidity on our part. We thought it just made sense that the car park ultimately being a business. Would obviously take advantage of the huge amount of revenue they would gain from patrons of the concert hall next door using the car park. When we returned to the car park after 10 everything was locked and my Mums car stuck inside. Panic immediately set in. Firstly we needed my Mums car to accommodate getting her and her scooter home safely. The car is set up with hoists etc. Secondly, my Mum with her long list of health issues would suffer greatly for days after if she had to wait in the cold till I tried to come up with a resolution. At this point itnwas minus 1 degree. And she was already chilled in the short time it took us to get a handle on what we would do next. Thirdly, my friend accompanying us had left her car keys in my Mums car. Her car was elsewhere. This meant she too couldn't get home to Bathgate. Just an all round nightmare situation. Again, all our own doing. Hoping against hope, I called the number and spoke with the lovely gent who answered and listened patiently as I explained our predicament. He immediately took control. And calmed me. As I was in tears by this point. He put me on hold. Made a few enquiries at his and and came back to me to advise he would get it sorted. And true to his word....he absolutely did!. Withing 5 minutes the gentleman appeared and introduced himself as William. He showed us where to pay for our parking. Helped us get my Mum and her scooter organised dismantled and stored and then opened the shutter for us to let us out. He allowed us time to get organised and didn't rush us or treat us as an inconvenience. I know this isn't normal practice. And I know that this goes above and beyond. I am assuming that the fact my Mum was vulnerable also had a bearing on the outcome. But either way I am immensely grateful. William Hendry is the kindest soul. I don't know in all honesty what we would have done if he hadn't helped us. It isn't just the fact he helped. He did it with compassion. So, lesson learned. Always check the parking restrictions. (Next time I may not be so lucky. ) And lastly I've learned that the world very clearly needs more Williams. As I said. Not all heroes wear capes! Thank you William. And thank you Buchanan...

Would have been five stars, but for the fact that they would not allow me to plug in my Samsung USB fast adaptive smartphone charger when my device battery has gone flat and my device was dead. I felt so embarrassed, being approached directly by security and loudly asked to move on (he wasn't asking me to leave, just move away from the power socket).

The security guard was polite - I'll give him that - and even helpfully pointing out there was a street defibrillator nearby that had a wireless charging point built in. However, other indoor shopping centres allow the charging of your mobile phone in their food court area!

Sadly, since I use my phone for tap & pay transactions, it meant I couldn't buy anything, and so they lost out on my custom! Now, I was carrying cash. I prefer to use cash. I hate the very idea of the cashless society, but can and will use contactless for some transactions, typically when I can earn reward points from my financal provider(s).
