The Bank Job: Very disappointing room and too expensive.
Firstly, the man who initially greeted us was unwelcoming and abrupt. After doing a few other escape rooms at other locations, I found this one very disappointing. We’ve done some amazing rooms before, which had several rooms, brilliantly decorated, with excellent props and imaginative tasks. They’ve been sophisticated, well thought out, executed perfectly and cheaper than this one! For £50 for 2 of us, I expected this one to be even better. It was not a patch on our previous ones!
It was just one small room, with thin walls so you could hear the groups of other people shouting. The room was unimaginative and boring. The tasks didn’t flow well and some of the padlocks didn’t work. The man who explained the game, also left us with the light off. The room was only lit by the tv on the wall. We’ve done escape rooms in almost darkness before so thought it was how it was meant to be, but we were really struggling and had to use our phone torches. After a while, the staff told us that we could turn the light on. I honestly don’t know why he left it off when he left us in the room. We lost time on that.
The tasks/puzzles had no flow. Nothing made any sense and it wasn’t very well thought out. It was just me and my son doing the room, it was his 15th birthday. We read in the information that it was a 5/5 difficulty, but that there was a family version, which was 4/5. We’ve done other difficult rooms so thought we’d be ok with the family version of this. Unfortunately, I don’t think we could have been given the family version, and it just wasn’t doable for 1 adult and 1 child. We might have stood half a chance if a couple of the padlocks hadn’t been stuck, wasting a lot of time. The message on the phone wasn’t there either, so staff had to tell us what the message was supposed to be, which wasted more time.
Help wasn’t very forthcoming. Just a few clues and pointers would have helped. It was supposed to be the family version after all.
I’ve never not enjoyed a room, but honestly felt like leaving after 20 minutes. When I think of the other (cheaper) rooms in the local area, and how much better they are, I’m kicking myself that I wasted £50 on this.
I gave it 3 stars, which was generous. I’ve compensated for the fact it was a high difficulty room (although as stated above, should have been an easier family version. Im sure some people (especially groups of adults) would have enjoyed it more and done better. Difficulty and ability aside though, it’s a poorly thought out room, with nothing of any interest and the minimum effort in creating it. It’s definitely...
Read moreBooked for 12 July for my daughters 16th birthday, there were 6 of us to do the 'The Lab'. We had an email confirmation telling us what we had to do during the corona virus pandemic, we arrived within the 15 minute window, we were allowed into reception and several hand sanitizers were available,.we also had the option of free face masks and gloves. We were greeted by our host, who was wearing a face mask. Instructions were given and asked if we understood everything. At all times we all felt the venue was clean, tidy and any worries about hygiene and safety soon disappeared. We have already agreed to go back to do 'The Bank Job'. If you haven't been before, get yourself there, brilliant time was had by all.
So, as promised we returned for the Bank Job on August 10th another daughters birthday, greeted by a member of staff wearing a mask, asked to sanitize as we walked in and asked if we wanted or needed masks, all the government rules were explained to us and we filled out the relevant forms on the pads. The idea is to get as much money in the allotted time, a cool £1,000,000 but as a bonus you can get it up to £2,000,000- but out of around 5000 groups we were told only 45 groups had done it- no pressure- it was hard, we unusually worked as a team, and with minutes to spare before the cops came, made the group to complete in full to 46- yehhhhhhh. What a great way to spend an hour, i think we have 1 left to do and we are definitely going back Prison Break here we come!!! Thanks for...
Read moreWe had a brilliant time at Escape Room Hull. We felt safe, there were hand sanitizer stations in the foyer. The staff member wore a mask, was friendly and helpful and kept distance. We played in ‘prison break’- 2 households against each other- me and my husband in one room, my parents in the other, we had to work together to get out- it was great fun and we got out luckily (with one minute to spare!) and a few clues! Thank you for a fun experience- it is the first proper ‘thing’ we’ve done out since Covid- my husband was unsure when I booked as he is v cautious, but he really relaxed and enjoyed himself as he felt safe- as did my dad who had been shielding until recently. Thank you :)- we...
