The performance was good but the provision of food and drink, and the associated service, was really poor. Staff acted with surprise at receiving food and drink orders at around midday on a Sunday. At first they told us the restaurant was about to close (!) despite the long queue of other hungry theatregoers behind us, then tried to convince us not to order as we'd not have time to eat everything before the show started. We explained we were there for a later showing, and it was only then that they relented and agreed to take our order. Once you've managed to trick the staff into allowing you to purchase their consumable items, there's nowhere to sit and enjoy them without being elbowed by scores of others awaiting their show (not their fault, they've got to wait somewhere!) The show itself (Rapunzel) was great fun and the kids enjoyed it, but if you want to make a day of it, get a drink or your meal...

Not being that familiar with Hull, it was amazing to find such a brilliant theatre right in the city centre. It’s literally steps from the railway station, on a main road/bus route, so is easily accessible all round. It’s also fully accessible for wheelchair users, as we had as part of our group.
Saw an adaptation production of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, featuring 2x HI performers, which meant we got a sprinkling of sign language throughout the performance - a brilliant touch! The acting was phenomenal, the sets evocative, and the whole production was absolutely magical. The only downside was that we saw it in warm weather, rather than during the Christmas time it’s set in!
Would highly recommend Hull Truck Theatre and especially the adaptation of “A...
Read moreWe enjoy going to Hull Truck and saw several well performed productions during Hull City of Culture 2017. Excellent production last night as usual. We went to see Oliver Twist, reasonably priced and good atmosphere. Convincing acting. Suitable for all ages. Easy to view the stage. Could order drinks during the interval if you wanted. The only negative aspect was the upstairs café where all food was served in "street food" paper containers even though they were ordinary British dishes with one bit of food covering up the rest. I had fish and chips but I had to lift the fish to see the chips. It didn't spoil our enjoyment of the theatre though. I'm glad we live in easy driving distance of this wonderful theatre. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to a theatre production at Hull Truck but have something to eat somewhere else...
