Several things in one here. Good food and beer served at both bars. Also tapas at the downstairs bar, as well as a beer shop in the cellar. Usually 3 cask on always in good condition, with a further 22 keg craft beers over the 2 floors. They have an outdoor area in front from covid related road closures but it's still there, hopefully to stay. The food and drinks is now back to pay at the bar. Food is well priced and of a good quality. Instead of typical pub menu it's quite varied - there are cold platters, a couple of pie and mash options, wraps, and daily specials including a stew and sausage of the day. Also available are good all day breakfast / breakfast sandwich options. Tapas are really good, struggled to eat 2 of them. They also do good tea and coffee (I'm told). The artwork also deserves a mention - both in the bar areas and the nudes...

Saw the name and I wanted to go in since I saw it. My wife and I had a bit of free time before a restaurant booking so we took the opportunity to head on over.

While my wife doesn't really enjoy beer and had a lovely orange juice (that's actual orange juice and not just orange cordial that she gets offered in most bars), I started with a vanilla porter called Bad Kitty, which went down a treat. It started to rain while we were there so I followed up with a caramel marshmallow Imperial porter.

I loved the decor, the staff were nice and the music was a cool selection (a good bit of alternative music to pop). If I'm ever in York again, whoever I'm with whether it's with my friends or my wife, I'm likely to try and get them to go here, so I can go again and try more beers and enjoy the atmosphere, maybe next I'll try out...

Was in York with my mam for my birthday, we came here for food and drinks. We were told an hour wait for wait as they were busy which was fine. We were waiting for it to come when people who had came a good 20 minutes after us got their food but there was no sign of ours so we asked the server, he said ours was on the bar waiting to come down and it would be next so we waited then the server who was supposed to bring finished his shift and left, we waited a further 10 minutes and still no food so we went inside for a refund. When we asked for a refund there was no apology, they said oh yes no problem, didn't ask why! Would never come back here again and would not recommend anyone...

My brother sister and myself ate about 7.20pm . The place was very busy,so we chose to go upstairs to get a table. This was a Thursday and one table left. Two of us ate the meat platters £16 each and my brother had schnitzel £12 plus latte prosecco and water for just over £ 50 . You order and pay at the bar. The young girl behind the bar was great. Super quick and very efficient. Order came quickly. As you can see by the picture great value. Stake and veal pie's all sold out at this time,as this was my first choice. First time eating here and definitely would go back. Great service from the staff. This is pub food at a very reasonable price 😺

After a busy and hectic day, this place is great to just saunter in and sit yourself down to relax and unwind. Atmosphere is great, the staff may seem somewhat stern but as soon as they engage you it's such a welcoming attitude - perfect mix of approach! Chairs are all a mismatch of wing back large comfy chairs, stools, chairs and booths.. Arranged over a good amount of floors that you have plenty of room to wander between floors. Great range of well discovered and chosen ales/ciders/bitters, soft drinks and wines.. Some food and nibbles and hot drinks too. Only downside I can see is the toilets are on the almost top floor!
