Monday afternoon. York eateries busy. Zizi had availability. Seated quickly. Drinks in and order in too. Starters good. Harrisa chicken very tasty. Rigatoni delacasa flavourless. Kids meal had eyelash within. This got sorted quickly with initial apologies. Kids were not bowled over by their food. Youngest left the meat of the bolognese just ate the pasta.
However replacement was given more or less without any words. No further apologies. Starter cutlery either taken away and not replaced. Or put down on the table from being in the plate? Asked for further cutlery sets to replace. Dark haired lady not interested in who she serves. Done without grace. Other staff seem busy. Maybe slightly understaffed.
No round of service type questions asked. For example everything ok with the food? No follow up ask of second drinks when empties clearly piled at the end of the table. Free pasta chips placed on table again no explanation of why. Hit and miss with service from staff in this place. Doesn't match the cost of the meal.
Actually a very late, " Is everything ok guys" from dark haried lady was provided. Lady happens to be the boss. Too late as now onto desserts. Kids ice creams good. Tiramisu very good.
Blonde lady Eva asking on desserts did apologise for the hair in food. So service varies from individuals.
Would only recommend if you do not have anywhere else to go.
Overall scores. Eldest- 3 star. Youngest- 3 star even with hair incident. Wife- blonde hair lady redeemed this poor service 3 star. Myself- lacks attentiveness. Hair incident. Lack of cutlery for main meal. Lack of second round of drinks. Firm 3 stars as the establishment itself is nice, music not so loud and the harissa chicken was good compliments to the chef on that one.
Chocochino which should come included with kids 3 course meal- no mention of this throughout.
Staff did offer to remove price of kids bolognese from the bill- bill had desserts added to bill. Staff Noticed and re-billed.
Toilets- ladies out of order had to use the mens. Make of this...
Read moreI was visiting York with my young family and figured Zizzi a safe bet as they are a reliable chain.
I booked a table online when I arrived there seemed to be some confusion about my reservation, once sorted we were seated in a dark area of the restaurant with no light. Someone came to take out drinks orders which came quickly. A large amount of time passed and someone came and tried to take the menus. I said we haven’t ordered yet and she said oh I thought someone had. We finally ordered, then the sever came back and checked our order again about 10 minutes later. A lengthy delay followed and it was apparent there was an issue. The sever came back again and said ‘had our food still not come?’ It hadn’t. Further commotion ensured. Then another person (a manager?) came and said they wrong order had been sent to the kitchen and a new one was coming in 3 minutes. About 15 minutes (about an hour after our order was first taken) later I threw in the towel and asked to leave. At that moment our starters arrived but I still wished to leave. The server (manager?) who spoke to us kindly settled the bill and was apologetic. Our original server disappeared and wasn’t seen again by us.
Normally I wouldn’t be bothered about a bit of a wait but we came early for our 5 year old. Who by this point was extremely tired and extremely tired. We had to leave to ensure she could have dinner and get to bed as I just couldn’t see the service getting quicker.
If there was a mistake with the order that’s fine, I just ask you be honest and communicate with your customers. Not shy away from it. I haven’t given a low star review because you did let us have the starters complimentary and they were actually good. As well as the bill quickly being settled and your manager? Being apologetic and seeming genuinely remorseful.
But should I be in York again I’m sorry I shan’t be returning to...
Read moreHey everyone! I wanted to share my latest experience at Zizzi, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots here in York. I've been to Zizzi a few times now, and each visit never fails to impress me—both the food and the service are consistently excellent.
This time, I tried the Signature Beef & Chianti Ragu, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The pasta arrived so hot that it was steaming up my glasses—talk about fresh out of the kitchen! I had to wait a bit or blow on it to cool it down, but the wait was totally worth it. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and I loved the addition of the crunchy leaves on top, which added a nice extra texture—I'm pretty sure they were fried basil leaves.
A big shoutout to Caz, who was my server this time. She did an amazing job, and I know there's a competition going on, so Caz, you’ve got my vote! The quality and attention to detail here are just top-notch, and the service is always friendly and attentive, making every visit a pleasure. If you're looking for a spot that consistently delivers great food and a welcoming atmosphere, Zizzi in York is definitely worth checking out. I can't wait for...
