⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 Hay’s Galleria is a hidden gem on the South Bank of the Thames that blends history, architecture, and modern leisure perfectly. Whether you’re strolling through on a weekday or just looking for a relaxing spot away from the more crowded London attractions, this charming location offers a delightful experience. One of the biggest perks of visiting Hay’s Galleria during the week is the lack of crowds. Unlike many other London destinations that are packed with tourists and office workers, the galleria maintains a peaceful atmosphere on weekdays. This makes it an ideal spot for a quiet lunch, a leisurely coffee break, or a serene wander. You can truly take your time to appreciate the surroundings without feeling rushed or cramped. The architecture is stunning and rich with history. Originally a 19th-century dock that received goods from around the world, the space has been beautifully restored and converted into a vibrant retail and dining area. The arched glass ceiling creates a light and airy environment, protecting visitors from unpredictable London weather while maintaining an outdoor feel. At the center stands the impressive “Navigators” sculpture by David Kemp, a dynamic, steampunk-inspired piece that pays homage to the area’s maritime past. Another highlight of Hay’s Galleria is the selection of food vendors and cafés. There’s a little something for everyone, from grab-and-go options to sit-down spots. The galleria features several excellent complimentary food sampling opportunities during the week. Vendors offering bites of artisan bread, fresh pastries, cheeses, and cured meats allow you to savor a range of flavors as you explore. These small tastings add a personal touch and make for an enjoyable, low-cost foodie experience. In addition to the vendors, you’ll find a variety of casual eateries and coffee shops. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick snack, a hearty lunch, or just a cup of coffee while people-watching, Hay’s Galleria has you covered. It’s easy to find a quiet table where you can relax and take in the ambience. The location is also fantastic. Situated right on the Thames, Hay’s Galleria offers stunning views of landmarks like The Shard, the Tower of London, and Tower Bridge. It’s an easy and scenic walk from nearby attractions, making it a convenient stop during a day of sightseeing. Overall, Hay’s Galleria is a peaceful, visually stunning, and delightfully tasty stop. With its low weekday crowds, complimentary food samples, and historical charm, it deserves a full 5/5 stars.

Hays Galleria is a historic building located in the London Bridge area of London, England. It was originally a warehouse and wharf, built in the 1850s by the merchant Alexander Hay. The building was used to store and transport goods such as tea, coffee, and spices from all over the world. During its early years, Hays Galleria played a crucial role in the bustling trade industry of London. The warehouse was connected to the Thames River, allowing ships to unload their cargo directly into the building. The goods were then transported through the galleria using a system of hoists and cranes. In the late 20th century, the warehouse fell into disuse and was left abandoned. However, in the 1980s, it was redeveloped into a mixed-use complex. The original structure was preserved, and the galleria was transformed into a covered shopping arcade with various shops, restaurants, and offices. At Christmas, Hays Galleria becomes a festive destination. The galleria is beautifully decorated with lights, Christmas trees, and festive ornaments, creating a magical atmosphere for visitors. There are often Christmas markets held within the arcade, offering a variety of unique gifts, crafts, and delicious food and drinks. Additionally, Hays Galleria hosts various seasonal events and activities during the Christmas period. These may include live music performances, carol singing, and even visits from Santa Claus himself. The galleria becomes a popular spot for both locals and tourists to enjoy the holiday spirit and participate in festive celebrations. Overall, Hays Galleria’s brief history showcases its transformation from a bustling trade hub to a vibrant shopping arcade. During Christmas, it becomes a charming destination to experience the joy and merriment of the holiday season. @hays.galleria #christmas #places #london #haysgalleria

Hay's Galleria is a nice place to visit while walking along the Thames in Southwark. This is a redevelopment of the historic Hay's Wharf, which makes a nice place to browse or stop for a coffee or wine before moving onward with your walk along the Thames. Hay's Galleria was originally known as Hay's Wharf, an important historic warehouse serving the port of London. During the 19th century, this was a chief delivery point for ships bringing tea to London. Unfortunately, the wharf suffered badly from bombing damage during WWII and never fully recovered afterwards as the shipping industry shifted elsewhere during post-war decades. The wharf finally closed down in the 1970s before being redeveloped into Hay's Galleria a decade later. Today, you can find office space, a few casual restaurants and shops in the covered galleria area. Towards the back there is a Christmas Shop that has decent seasonal decorations. However, the most interesting thing at Hay's Galleria is probably the intriguing sculpture called The Navigators, designed by David Kemp (1987). Overall, we enjoy stopping by Hay's Galleria from time to time, its worth a 10-15 minute detour if you are intending to spend time in this area of Southwark.

As we arrived in Côte, we were entertained by our view over the Thames in the middle of a thunderstorm from our upstairs room. We're a fair sized group of retirees, seated at an upstairs large table, served speedily and efficiently by a very patient and polite waiter. There was a great selection from which to choose, we were spoilt for choice. Good old fashioned 'fish pie' for me, with prawns, haddock and salmon in a creamy cheesy potato topping. Around £14, well worth it. None of us could refuse a simple strawberry Pavlova with crème fraîche, irresistible. We pored over the calories given for every dish, apart from the prix fixé menu, for some unknown reason ! On this list the two courses cost £16.95, three are £20.95, only cards are accepted for payment, with a 10% gratuity added to the bill. I asked our waiter if they receive this money. He assured me that they do, and thanked me for asking. There was a fuss free method of ordering our meals, all done from his hand held i-pad.
