So I never write reviews on anything but I just couldn’t let this go. You would never see me talking about racism and all that but this was too painful… I went to have a meal today.. 21/07/25 between 13:45-14:45 .. good service and all that.. but after the meal I paid and went to the toilet and one of the waitresses was looking at me in a funny way but I didn’t take any offence. I came back upstairs... heading out and she (one waitress) rushed to me asking, excuse me, have you paid? And I answered, YES I DID, DO YOU WHAT TO CONFIRM BEFORE I LEAVE? And she actually said YES!!! Made me WAIT.. for her to go to her computer to check before she said “oh I’m sorry, you can go” like??????? Seriously???? The fact that she asked if I had paid doesn’t bother me compared to the fact that she made me wait for her to confirm before I was allowed to leave after I had said yes… like I would actually LIE ABOUT PAYING or not… meanwhile… 3 white guys were walking right through the door and they weren’t asked that question…. They say you’re free but you’re never actually free. I even asked for mac and cheese and they brought creamed spinach instead.. not a word.. no complaints because that is not my thing…This is my first ever giving a review on any restaurant or anything because you don’t actually care until they do it to you and you feel like shit!!! Ruined my whole day… like why would someone treat me like that? I look like I would walk into a restaurant and eat and run out without paying because I was born black??? Not that I would’ve ever chosen otherwise when it comes to race but this racial screening and assumptions HAS TO STOP!!! This is not a way to bad talk the restaurant or anything BUT PLEASE EDUCATE AND ADVISE YOUR STAFF ON THIS!!! I thought central London was more diverse but I was...
Read moreVisited The Flat Iron in Borough Market recently and had a mixed but ultimately fantastic experience. Initially, the lack of a clear seating or greeting system was confusing, with some procedural elements seemingly amiss. The distinction between servers, waitresses, and glass collectors wasn't apparent, which added to the initial disorientation. Moreover, the absence of noticeable management, alongside the obligatory offering of popcorn and quirky ice cream, left me questioning the establishment's organizational structure.
However, and this is a significant however, the handling of allergens and the explanation of their chart were exceptional. The staff's attention to detail in this area was reassuring and truly appreciated. Moving on to the food - it was nothing short of phenomenal. If it were possible to rate it 11 out of 10, I would without hesitation. Every dish was perfect in every conceivable way. A special shoutout to the green salad, which was brilliantly prepared without dressing and included pumpkin seeds, fennel, and peas. A masterpiece, to say the least.
Kudos to the chef for the outstanding culinary experience. Despite the initial hiccups, the quality of the food and the care in allergen information have left a lasting impression on me. Would recommend for the food quality alone, which manages to shine through the service ambiguities.
I hope this review m captures the nuances of our experience, emphasizing the areas for improvement while also highlighting the exceptional aspects, especially the food and...
Read moreI recently visited Flat Iron to celebrate our anniversary, and I can honestly say it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've ever had. We had high hopes for a lovely evening, but unfortunately, it was anything but.
Firstly, the service was terrible. From the moment we walked in, the staff seemed uninterested in providing a warm welcome or even a simple acknowledgment. We felt rushed and ignored throughout our meal, which put a damper on the celebratory mood we were hoping for. The staff were so rude —they seemed more focused on chatting among themselves than attending to their guests.
Then came the food. I ordered the steak, expecting a normal size piece of steak. What I received was an undercooked piece of meat that was too small and thin. It was all cut up which meant the meat got cold very fast. It was ridiculous. It left both me and my partner still feeling starving, which is not what you want on a special occasion.
Given the lack of satisfaction from our meal, we found ourselves leaving Flat Iron feeling unsatisfied and frustrated. We ended up having to stop somewhere else for a bite to eat afterward, which completely ruined the experience we had in mind. For the prices they charge, we expected so much more in terms of both service and quality.
Overall, I cannot recommend Flat Iron based on our experience. I’d suggest looking elsewhere for a restaurant that truly values its guests and delivers on quality. Too over priced for hardly any food. Save your...
