On April 13th around 12:20, A lovely lady at 3rd floor warmly welcomed me to John Lewis, and introduced me to a treasure hunt event and directed me to customer services on the 1st floor for a leaflet. Another kind sales lady on the 1st floor also encouraged me to join and even showed me the first clue, everything felt very welcoming.
However, the experience changed entirely at customer services. The desk was unattended for a while, and when a gentleman finally appeared. When I asked about the leaflet, he asked, âDo you have children?â without other context.
I understand that there could be rules on it, but no one mentioned child before I got to customer services. I clarified: "I'm sorry that I don't know about this. I was just invited by your colleage, A lady introduced me to this event, and your colleagues led me to customer services, no one mentioned about child so I was confused when you asked me."
The gentleman replied: "We only do this for children, a man came here before and he left." He also responded with, "If you insist, I'll give you a form⌠why do you want a form?" I said: "I have been told there will be a prize, but what is important, I know nothing about children. It's not I'm trying to insist anything." He said: "Okay, you want the prize, so I can give you the sticker now. Is that everything you want?"
I was shocked. I couldn't believe an Easter activity is actually something "get a sticker and go away".
When I told him I felt really uncomfortable, I need to speak to someone else and asked for his name, he replied, "No." then disappeared into the office, ignoring other customers until they called for help. Other visitors even expressed I wasnât treated properly and had recorded the incident. I wasn't wearing glasses, but I believe his name started with an "S." When he returned, he muttered his name quickly while avoiding me.
It was an upsetting experience that left me embarrassed on what should have been a happy movein day while shopping for new bedding in a store I've always trusted. It's very understandable that everyone can be in a bad mood, but I believe sometimes it's not proper to sharing it with anyone else, especially with...
