We highly recommend this fun and adventurous way to see the city from the River Thames. Harry and Chris were excellent guides and we just thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.
We went from Battersea to Greenwich and left about 3:45pm. The departure time is timed with the tide (so be on time for the departure and go to the bathroom before you get to the docking location as there are no bathrooms close).
You will be provided waterproof suspender pants and a life vest (PFD). You will get into a double kayak and they will attach a spray skirt for each of you which keeps you dry. We did get a little wet but not much and did not need to change clothes after but I would bring them just in case.
You do not need (and should not bring) a camera or plan on using your phone. Harry takes a ton of pictures and post them for you to download for free. He sent us a link via email at the end of each day.
They provide plenty of instruction so this trip works for those who haven't kayaked although it helps if you've been before. The ride is 11 miles but they tide moved us very quickly and we completed the trip in less than three hours. The river is not as calm as you might think. We really enjoyed the swells and activity.
The views were spectacular and we want to go again on...
Read moreMy daughter and I finally took our London vacation and in addition to the usual sights we really wanted to do something special and unique. I found the London Kayak Company online and immediately booked a trip from Greenwich to Battersea. We kayak periodically around our home state of Maine and have kayaked in Alaska as well but I still didn’t know what to expect from the Thames. Simply stated it was fantastic! Our guides had everything we needed and wasted no time gearing us up. I knew we were in very capable hands. The trip itself is perfect. You start with a few miles of relatively calm river to work out the bugs of traveling with a group of folks with very different experience levels. That’s followed by an amazing trip through all of Central London’s most famous landmarks while navigating some very exciting water. Our guides were snapping photos the whole time so we could focus on paddling and not worry about dropping phones or capsizing. Once past Vauxhall Bridge the river traffic quiets down and we had a few miles of relaxing paddling to end our trip. My daughter and I have done a lot of fun things during our London visit but this was something special. Cheers to our guides for a very memorable day....
Read moreRocky and Harry are the absolute best and I cannot recommend them highly enough. -They had really good communication answering questions I had about the changing weather and what that meant for the trip. -They were extremely safe explaining everything clearly and with a sense of humour - with had an encyclopaedic knowledge of history of the buildings, wildlife and goings-on in London. -They took great pictures so you could have a memento of the trip -The trip itself was a really fun paddle, the three hours flew by and was totally fine for both experienced and new kayakers. My partner was a little worried about the e-coli in the Thames - but we were so covered in waterproof's and gloves for the paddle and the facilities to change and wash at the end were so good we were absolutely fine. I would recommend everyone do this - the view you get from the river is like nothing else and its such a fun way to spend...
