Underwhelming is the only way I can describe my visit to this restaurant.
Despite being a Monday night the restaurant was pretty busy, but it was expected given the location. I assume this would normally have some pretty great views of the city, but ongoing construction work prevents any meaningful views at the moment.
Generally the waiting staff were very attentive and friendly and couldn't really ask for much more, although sometimes there seems to be a break in communication between the ordering system and what is actually served at the table, with additional requested never arrived never fulfilled by the kitchen.
I was presented with the starter along with a single small bowl of salad and single bread sized portion of bread. I asked myself whether this was part of the starter dish, or if this was the salad to be eaten with the main course, it transpired to be the latter, first red flag.
For my main course I ordered a mixed shish, but what was delivered can only be described as a small portion of meat and a tiny handful of chips, the meal felt dwarfed by the amount of space not occupied by food, despite being a normal size plate. This confirmed my initial suspicions that I was going to leave this restaurant unsatisfied and hungry.
Once I finkshed what was essentially a child's portion main meal I thought it was necessary to order a desert, if because I needed to ensure I didn't pass out from hunger on the drive home.
Commence desert, and the previous trends continued. A below average slice of cheesecake on a gigantic serving plate. Unfortunately for me, not only was the portion size below average, but the cheesecake was pretty bland and tasted similar to a shop bought version, but not the "posh" variants.
I had high hopes for this restaurant, mainly based on it's high average customer reviews, but I am now questioning their authenticity due to my recent experience. Unfortunately I would struggle to recommend this restaurant, and probably wouldn't visit again.
I assume most of their custom comes from the city, but when compared to the thousands of other restaurants in London this is average at best. Unfortunately, this did not deliver the same level of dinning experience expected for this...
Read moreOur initial experience with Moira began with a slight hiccup regarding our booking for 3 adults and 1 child, as a phone conversation suggested they weren't particularly geared towards children. However, the owner, upon reading our initial review, immediately contacted us to apologize and encourage us to keep our reservation, especially as it was for our daughter's 6th birthday. We decided to proceed, and we're so glad we did. Despite arriving slightly late due to underground delays, the restaurant staff were incredibly accommodating. We started with the hot mixed mezze, freshly baked bread, and a mixed platter for four, all of which were served promptly, hot, and delicious. The food was a true testament to the restaurant's claim of authentic Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine.
The service, in particular, was exceptional. Attentive without being intrusive, our drinks were consistently topped up, and they went above and beyond to make our daughter feel special. They surprised her with a complimentary apple juice, dimmed the lights, brought out a slice of cake, and the entire restaurant joined in singing 'Happy Birthday.' It was a truly memorable moment.
The owner's proactive response and the subsequent dining experience completely transformed our initial impression. Moira proved to be a warm, welcoming restaurant with excellent food and outstanding service. I would highly recommend it, especially for families looking for a special occasion meal. Thank you, Moira, for turning a potential disappointment into a wonderful...
Read moreNice food but a little overpriced and under-seasoned compared to other Turkish restaurants I have tried, although I have tried quite a few and been spoilt! We ordered the mixed grill for 2 - nicely seasoned but not much meat on the lamb ribs which were 3/4 fat and shish could have been a little softer. At £45 it didnt leave us hungry but also wasnt hugely filling so we added on a portion of chips - I have ordered the same in other Turkish restaurants and not been able to finish it. We also ordered the chicken iskender which was ok, the sauce and meat could have done with more seasoning as it was plain tasting and the bread was quite dry and hard, more like croutons than soft spongy bread which I've usually experienced with this dish. Both dishes with a little basket of bread, small side of chips and 4 drinks came to £95, the 4 drinks and chips alone came to £25 and the service charge was automatically added on. I would have happily given a good tip as the service itself was great but I always dislike when it's automatically added on. In most other Turkish resturants I have been to, bread (usually unlimited) is complementary before the main meal and so is Turkish tea/baklava afterwards while you are waiting for the bill. Not the case here, but as I said previously, I have been spoilt. This place is good if you're local and dont want to travel for Turkish food, but in future I will be travelling to one of the many Turkish restaurants in Green Lanes where the portions are huge and they throw in lots...
