I've used the Steamroom for almost 5 years since I moved to Hackney. In the past couple of years, the shop has undergone a trendy makeover in keeping with it's East End location. It now incorporates a "lifestyle" store and gallery for local artists, which makes for interesting browsing. But the same high quality standards of a specialist laundry service remain at its core: The owners are friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and careful with your prized clothes. They will give you an honest appraisal of the likely outcome from dry cleaning of your designer coat with hard-to-remove stains. They will give you tips on how to care for your woolens and delicates. I've been loyal to The Steam Room for the 7+ years I've been in Hackney, despite now living closer to alternative dry cleaning options. What those places are like, I wouldn't know. If you need anything cleaned or mended, the services here are professional, consistent, fast and great value. Beyond that, Tony, Fran and Tony's Dad are wonderful people, and we've become good friends. It's been fun to watch their business and space grow and change over the past years - from a shop featuring Tony's own merch, to a gallery supporting local artists, a cafe collaboration, etc. etc. This is a really special place in the community. I love The Steamroom and it's 'mom & pop' vibe. They're super quick, efficient, and always kind. One time I had to get a jacket pocket fixed and a few other items cleaned on a rather quick turnaround. I had unfortunately missed the time to come back in to pick it up before my trip so I reached out to them, and they were able to go above and beyond for me to make sure I got my items back before my trip. I don't know many other places that would do such a kindness for one of their clients. I will certainly continue bringing my clothes here even if I've moved out of the area. Highly recommend!
